Default F TYPE engine question

Hello.

I am a new member and i am interested in looking at a 2016 or newer F TYPE convertible. I have a question about the different engine types and general preferences.

I know that they have the F TYPE, F TYPE S, F TYPE SVR and F TYPE R.

I know absolutely nothing about Jaguars. Are there any advantages with the different types listed above?

Thanks in advance

Base F-TYPE: 340HP supercharged V6
F-TYPE S: Same engine, tuned to 380HP
R, SVR and V8S (2014-15) are V8s, with different tune levels. V8S was 495HP, R is I think 550HP, and I believe SVR is 575HP?

Also note that a 2.0l 4-cylinder 300HP engine was introduced in MY18, I think it was.

There are many other differences in the models in addition to engine - limited slip differentials, active dampers, etc. You have a lot of research to do!

I'd start with the official Jaguar web page, and ignore the 4-cylinder options (not available in 2016). That should give you an introduction. From there, you'll have more meaningful questions.

If you do that, note that they don't call the S the S anymore. It basically was renamed the R-Dynamic (not exactly, but close enough).

Yeah, they rebranded everything, but if you count cylinders and look at power you can, as you say, get close enough.

Also noted about are some non-engine questions that will narrow down the range. If a limited slip differential is a must have for you, the base model is out. If a manual transmission is a must, then you'll have to get a V6.

Oh and by the way, welcome to the forum and enjoy the search for knowledge available within the threads! That's part of the fun of deciding. The real fun comes with obtaining your FTYPE and learning through driving and how the forum posts can help you learn to make the most of it. Bottom line, this car is a joy and will make you routinely giggle like a school child for years to come. Just think of it as a "permagrin".

Get ready..........good luck in your choices and post pictures when you decide and take possession.
