Default F-Type Heated Windshield, Yay or Nay?

Hi All,

Was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the heated windshield that is currently a part of the climate pack. Specifically, I was wondering how visible the lines are during daily driving, as I had seen some reports of folks being bothered by glare and other visual irregularities while driving. Others had complained that the lines were simply bothersome in general. I originally ordered my P300 F-Type without the heated windshield for this very reason, however there is now a P380 that I'm potentially interested in which has the heated windshield and I'm now trying to figure out if I'd be able to live with it if I do end up going with the P380. Appreciate any thoughts!

A few pics below that were sent from the dealer:

Appreciate any thoughts!

I have the heated windshield in both my F-Type and my Evoque. I am never bothered by the lines. I have to really concentrate and focus at the windshield itself to even see them at all.
It is interesting that this feature seems to be a JLR exclusive offering. A replacement windshield can be big bucks - like as much as 3000 USD.

Apart from actually heating the windshield, what I really like is the symmetry of the switches.
OCD moi?

Nay, unless you park it outside in the snow alot. Doubt many of these are used in such conditions. But im sure someone does.

People say you get used to it and they are a lie lol
I've had it for two years and HATE it.
Here is an easy way to think about it...If you are a person who doesn't mind driving with a dirty front window, you will not mind it.
If you are a person who keeps their front window clean 80% of the time you will hate it.
The glare is obvious when approaching headlights hit it, when you drive under streetlights, or driving anywhere at night.
If a rock hits my window, I'm not going to be mad.

Here is a lengthy discussion on it in the XJ section.

The wires are visible in certain conditions. but they've never bothered me. And if they did, the fact that I can drive the car on a frosty morning with warm hands (no manual hacking at the ice!) would outweight that. And, as malbec points out, you have evenly sized switches!

Another neat thing is that if you start the car below 5C the front and rear screen heaters come on automatically.

I've had heated front windscreen in my last 3 cars (2 x Mazda and now my F-Type) and they've never once bothered me. Not having a garage means the car sits outside and being able to get into the car and drive off within a minute or so, rather than having the car idling for 5-10 minutes whilst the ice melts, is something that cannot be underestimated until you've been through it. I guess it is just another of those "love / hate" things.

I bought a 2018 F-Pace with the heated windshield. Hated looking through the wires. Traded it at 14 months for a Mazda CX-5. The Mazda had more tech for under $40k than an F-Pace at $75k. It's not a Jag, but it handles almost as well, and is a ton more reliable. To my eyes, the front end of the CX-5 is more attractive than the F-Pace. Also, never liked the dial shifter on the F-Pace, always wished it had the same shifter as my F-Type. Tastes vary, your mileage may differ. For me, the heated windshield is a no go.

The asymmetry of the switches would bother me more than seeing the wires.
I have to look very hard to notice the wires, the switches on the other hand.....

Ok, back to the question, which was about the heated windscreen in the F-Type...my car has this; it dispels fogging in an instant and if it works as the heated windscreen does in our X-Type - ( which sits outside all year long) it will also work brilliantly for frost and ice.
Are the lines visible? Under some specifc conditions (night, glaring headlamps) possibly yes. Otherwise, they are so fine that they are virtually invisible. No problem at all...and the benefits far outweigh the possible nuisance factor. If you live where there are winter conditions of snow and ice, definitely worthwhile.

The knack is to focus on the road ahead, not the glass!

I wouldn't like the heated screen if it de-sensitizes our radar detector.

I have it on my convertible... and I used it maybe once as I don't drive the car in the winter, but if you ever have to defog, it is nearly instant. You don't see it during daylights, but dusk and dawn it can pop out if the sunlight hits it just right.

Also, get a proper supercharged F-type if you have the means. There is nothing quite like it, and won't be again due to all the environmental laws getting passed.

Had it on an LR Discovery - hated it, thought it was distracting and I usually always tint my windshields - maybe because the tint is a uniform color versus the grid on the heated windshield, but I really didn’t like it; felt like I was looking through a screen door.

I am in the group who have the option and like it and find it useful.

As others have commented if you focus on the windscreen the very fine lines are visible but when focusing on the road I never notice it.

I have had this on previous cars, I think Ford was one of the first manufacturers to introduce it, branded as "quickclear" screen many years ago

I think Ford actually held the patent back in the day.
