Default F-Type Leg Room?

I sat in an F-Type R at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year, and I was crushed to discover that the car had nowhere near the amount of legroom that I would require to be comfortable. I'm 6'2" with a 33" inseam, and as far as I could tell, the driver's seat was adjusted all the way back (it appeared to be touching the bulkhead). I've been ogling the F-Type for some time with an eye toward acquiring one, but the fit for me was so tight that I immediately gave up on the idea. I was really heartbroken. Could I have missed a trick? Are the peddles also adjustable, etc.? I'd really need a good 3 or 4 additional inches to make it work for me.

My measurements are identical to yours. Unless you didn't have the seat lowered all the way, or it was reclined too much, I can't imagine why you had trouble finding a comfortable position. In fact, I actually moved mine forward a bit so that it was just off the bulkhead.

Maybe you just have an odd seat position preference, but I know it's a non-issue for people even taller than me.

The Jag seats move themselves forward if you move them back too far. Once they reset themselves you can adjust it just a bit further back. I need every millimeter of that gray zone but I like to lean back a bit more than average.

I'm a 32 inseam and while I'm not going to confuse the seating position with a Land Rover, it's comfortable enough for 2-hour stints at the wheel. I'd give it another look as there aren't too many other cars in this segment with significantly more room with only 2 seats.

I am pretty much the same size and there is not much extra room but I can make myself very comfortable in mine.

+1 on all counts, but perhaps for me that's due to having a 3rd pedal requiring a closer seat position than for just the brake and throttle.

33-34 inseam, 6'3", and no problem for me.....must move the seat forward a bit and recline further to fit with my helmet.
Take a few moments to mess with the seat....up at the front, down at the back, lots of side support, bit of lumbar .....you will feel cosseted .

There is a trick to getting the seat into the rearmost position while avoiding the auto-bounce-back.
  1. Temporarily tilt the seatback forward, beyond 90 degrees, so it will not make contact with the bulkhead before the seat bottom.
  2. Adjust the tilt of the seat bottom to the desired position - for us tall folk this is usually back of the seat bottom down and front of the seat bottom up to better support the back of legs just above the knee.
  3. Now adjust the seat bottom all the way to the rear of the track.
  4. Then, re-adjust the tilt of the seat back until it snugs up against the bulkhead.
I'm 6'3", 32.5" inseam. Moved to the F-type from a Benz where I had several inches more legroom and simply got comfortable i.e. spoiled with being able to stretch out while driving. Took a little time to adapt, and a minor adjustment to my knee and heel position, but after nearly two years of joy in the cockpit of the F-Type, I don't notice or even think about it any longer.

I'm 6'4 and have test driven an F-type S and R. I took a few minutes to adjust the seat based on tips that I read here before I went to drive one. I was able to find a comfortable position but I was not as comfortable as I am in my 650i. I can live with the tight cockpit so I still plan to buy a F type. I doubt that I will be taking any long road trips in it anyway.

Default the truth of the matter.

The seating is too tight.

I'm only 6 01 and it sucks. I would never go on a long trip in an F as it would just be too painful. After just two hours of driving my F, I get restless leg syndrome and I need to play imaginary footsie and "this little piggie" with my toes just to regain circulation. I've had more fun in a dentist chair. My biggest pet peeve about this car.

To those that claim the legroom is fine I believe are mentally compensating because they want to like what they bought - or - they simply have short Donald Trump legs. How can you realistically say there's plenty of legroom? This is an irresponsible statement.

This is a real problem.

I am 180 cm and have had some rather long trips in my F-type with the longest being a 11 hour long drive when I only stopped for refueling.

No pain what so ever, and I am really surprized of the comfort. Might be that I am lucky and the seats fit my build, but I can not think of any other car that I have had (and it's been a few) that I would rather drive for longer trips.

Sigh . . . that last line is priceless. It may be your truth, but far from the views of the majority and most will consider the source.

+1. 6'-2"+. Day long drives, plenty o' leg room, very comfortable. Performance seats can be adjusted loose to tight (I prefer tight). It's supposed to be a sports car. You gotta get in shape.

I agree that the seats are really good. I'm approximately 6'1" and 200 lbs.

My back is in bad shape (fused disc's,) and ligament damage in my ankles (hockey stuff) so car seats can be torture for me if I'm driving for more than an hour or so. I'm in good physical condition otherwise.

My F type R seats are the best I've had in any car that I can recall and of late, they feel better than my new XE sport seats, although I've not had a chance to drive the XE for more than an hour so, to date. With the F, I've gone up to 6 hours with one stop and no issues..
Lawrence.

I'm 6'3 and have an inseam of 33-34 (depending on the brand/designer). I have no issues driving in my F-Type. I've taken her on multiple runs between LA and SF and that's 5 hour drive.

I'm 6' and have the Performance seats. In 2008, I had back surgery. Things are better, but not great. With that, I'm very picky about seating in general not just cars. Long drives in my wife's Audi, I need to use some extra support to help my back. After a few hours, my legs will go numb in that car.

I've done a few trips (5+ hours) in the Jaguar and haven't needed to add anything extra for back support or had issues with my legs. I don't really call the F-Type a sports car, more of a GT car but either way it's a lot more comfortable than any other sporty car I've owned over the years.

Default And what about the source. Since we want to get personal now.

Let me know how you really feel!

I said that line as a joke actually but hell, if the shoe fits eat it.

I contribute quit a bit to this forum.

Am I a drain?
Am I crazy?
Am I unreliable?

If you guys feel that way, I can split like the others did. Funny how all those in the past that didn't succumb to the groupthink here all are gone. And some are still here with commentary, without F's.

The freaking legroom sucks. Simple. There are tons of threads relating to this very issue, he's not the only guy to point this out. Don't lie to the guy. It's a sports car with limited legroom. You made your own point. Guys won't even use certain phone mounts because of leg room.

Some of you guys are starting to take yourselves way too seriously.

Told the guy my truth, along with a long line of others that have commented on this topic in the past. I said the "Polaris will always tell you the truth" because it seemed as if some of you guys were starting to make it seem like he had no valid reason for even bringing up the point. I feel as he. Learn to laugh at a joke line.

Here are the topics just for the search for "legroom", and "leg room" nothing else.

This topic ALWAYS comes up and not for nothing. In fact I'd bet 50% of the people over 6 feet with new F's ask something about seating on here. That's a lot.

I'll say it again in plain English so I don't hurt anyones way too serious feelings. "The F could be more comfortable for people with longer legs".

There are things I like and don't like about the F. Get over it.

Goodness, it seems like you are the one who cannot take a joke. Make a comment on the car and leave it at that!

Well, all you tall Guys can blame this on the crash test Dummy which seem to have an average height of 1.75m, which is almost 5' 9" in old money.

Obviously at some point, Ian Callum had to make a decision, should he design the Car around Kobe Bryant, who is 6' 6" tall, because he might buy one some Day, he likes the Roger Rabbit look, or around the average crash test Dummy so Jaguar stands a better chance of getting a higher crash test rating.

Having said all that, I'm 5' 10" with a 32" inseam and have to put the seat back all the way pretty much. So I must be taller than I look.
