1) I'm quite sure those pictures of your friends 911 Turbo don't do the car justice. It's much better looking in person.
2) Needless to say it's all extremely subjective but our F-Type - any F-Type, in any configuration and/or color - blows the Porsche away in the looks department. Performance differences? I couldn't care less.
The 911 says Hi I'm being driven by someone with a crap load of money. I am more wealthy than you, deal with it.
I don't know...To me it screams: I'm a 50 year old car and all the designers could come up with in that time is bigger wings, holes and fender flares. The skin is really belying what lurks beneath.
I also view the F Type car as a much better looking design. Yes, Porsche had 50 years to tinker and tweak this car, and create a monster. That's why every single car manufacturer that comes out with a sports car, compares there car to the Porsche 911 model car. The Porsche Turbo is brutally fast. I was shocked being in the passenger seat and even more shocked when my friend let me take it for a spin. The car is almost twice the cost of the F Type. To me, that's just crazy and not worth it. It's all about choices.

I think the Porshe convertable looks a lot better than the f type. The coupe is a toss up.
I'm the opposite; If I was going 911, It'd definitely be a hardtop. On the F type, though I think the coupe edges ahead in looks, the convertible looks decent and like the car was designed to be a 'vert......which it was. The 'vert version of most cars look like a hardtop with the top cut off.....mostly because that IS how they were designed.
In 1988 I bought a 911 Carrera - 1974. White w/ black lower door letters, tail.
Bought it for $22k, played with it for a summer, sold it for $22k because everyone was telling me 'if the engine goes, that's $10k+' - hahaha. Well, in short, I was a financially extended to buy that car.
Saw one on Mecum the other day - geez Louise.
In high school there was a Porsche dealer nearby and even though I was just a teen, they'd let me lust over the cars. Smart, as in 'future buyer'.
Still have an emotional attachment to 911s, but the FT is much more of what I prefer now.
I guess I will weigh in here too. As many of you know, I rebuild performance cars and have owned a couple custom shops over the years which gives me an unique experience as to various automobiles having either owned them, rebuilt them, or had customers with them. ...and I have to say, hands down, the V8 F-Type is my favorite vehicle I have ever owned or driven. I cannot crank it without a grin appearing and stretching all the way across my face. The pops, burbules, and growls created by the skinny pedal on the right are an absolute symphony to my ears and the performance is astonishing to both passengers and contenders. However, one can turn off the dynamics and exhaust and cruise her sedately down the boulevard to a black tie night. The only vehicles that has ever given me this much pleasure were the Porsche 928S GTs...and they did not have the performance of the F-Type. I love my Corvettes also, but the F-Type is SO much more refined and sophisticated. Just my $0.02 and YMMV...
I think the F Type is the best looking new car on sale today, possibly of all time too. So I'd agree with the thread starter - you've made the better choice!

Loved the F-Type when it was first released in convertible form.
When the coupe came along, knew I had to have one.
Jaguar...Porsche...hmmm. Have to own an F-Type R Coupe, that's a given. But also a Porsche, to access the other side of the handling coin (the razor sharp side, that is). But forget the 911 Turbo. There are other Porsches, far cheaper, and much less of a snooze for real life street driving. My solution is the 987 Spyder, which seems to be turning into a bit of a cult Porsche. Jaguar...Porsche...why not one of each? A photo of my Spyder from Springtime '16:

That wasn't dust but pollen. And, other than the time you generously let someone else [Bonnie] drive your car, you were right up there with us!
IF money were no object, I would happily have both an F-Type and a Porsche; although I've never had any desire to possess one. But since money is an object - and no F-Type comes cheap - the F-Type is BY FAR THE MOST DESIRABLE.

Here in Germany a Porsche is nothing special. But when people see an F-type and especially hear the V8, they always look after the car and grin and waving.
The Turbo S is really an incredibly fast car and looks good, but at the price ???
Rather be a rare ride and be amazed ...
Porsche is simply mass-produced in Germany ...

My 2 cents.... the turbo has always been a fav of mine and it's stayed somewhat fresh looking over the years. Performance is its purpose. However take the big wheels, spoiler and scoops off and it's nothing special looking at all. A base f type is still a beautiful car. Organic, sexy...... in saying that if I had the money a turbo would be in my fleet.
Thee spyder above is my fav of the Boxsters IMO.

I was a signature from owning a beautiful black 987 a couple years back. Made the mistake of asking my wife her opinion. A blessing really, since I wouldn't have been able to get the F-type otherwise. Her response on that was: "That's really nice!".
