Gas Cap
The gas cap retainer on my F-Type simply does not work.
When I go to self service fill up, I carefully place the cap on the small hanger.
Nine out of ten, it falls off during filling or when the pump clicks off..
When I go to a full service station, the attendant ignores the hanger and simply drops the cap against the side of the car.
While there is no noticeable marking from the cap, I would feel better if I could cover the filler cap with something protective .
I have been looking for a silicone rubber cover that would fit over the cap but have had no luck finding anything suitable.
Doe anyone have source or a better idea how to stop the cap dinging the side of the car?

Are you sure you are putting the cap fully/properly on the hanger?
The first few times I filled up I had this problem as well until I figured out that I wasn't pushing the cap far enough back against the lid to engage the tang on the surround in the slot that runs around the inside of the cap.

Fun Fact: In New Jersey, it's against the law to pump your own gas. Found out while dropping our daughter off in Delaware for college.
You are right!
Why does it even have a gas cap?
Other manufacturers have got rid of them and simply use the filling position outer cover as a seal without a screw-on cap.
Regarding "full service", it is the law in a few towns near me that self service is not permitted.
It just so happens, my lowest price (premium) gas is sold at 2 of these stations.
So, at one level, who wouldn't want lower price ( 50 cents per gallon difference) and free service??
Just wish they would not drop the filler cap. If I am fast enough I get out of the car and position the cap myself.

It sounds like a job for Plasti Dip. In the spray-on format it's under $10. I would carefully mask off anything that you don't want coated and make sure the cap is clean. If you don't like it, it peels off easily.
Maybe a piece of bicycle tire innertube, cut to the right width and stretched over the circumference of the cap ? You could probably do a couple of layers. I too have noticed that the cap holder function on the fuel filler lid doesn't work very well. I try and keep one hand on it when fueling so it doesn't pop loose.
Same in Oregon. So dumb!
UK forecourts are generally too busy and have lots of pumps - it'd cost a fortune to not have self-service. And Darwinism comes into effect, too - stops the terminally thick from using their cars!
