Default Good deal or rip off?

Found a fully loaded 2014 V8S with 8k miles for $62,895. Dealer is willing to give $3k discount. Price includes all fees. Car has less than 1 year of original warranty left on it. To add CPO he quoted $1645 for 5yr/100k, $2845 6yr/100k and $4445 7yr/100k.

Are Jag CPO warranties really this expensive or is he trying to make a huge profit by adding CPO?

Thanks,
-Marc

Compared to what I paid for an extended warranty on my '02 MINI about 10 years ago, these numbers look very reasonable except for the 7 year offering (about $400 too high).

Agreed, these numbers (if factory CPO and not a random 3rd party warranty) look good.

I hate to do this to myself, because I paid 60k flat for a CPO 2014 V8s fully loaded with 22k miles, but I think you can get a better deal. You should be paying somewhere right around 60K WITH the CPO for 6 years/100k miles. Without the CPO you should be somewhere around 57 or even 56k$.

The key here is that this must be factory CPO. Third-party warranties are all rip-offs via fine print exclusion.

As the owner of a 2014 V8S, as much as it pains me to say it, that sounds like a lot of money for a car without CPO. The V8S seems to carry a significant price discount compared to the R models.

I imagine the dealer got the car in the 40's.

I would want the number to begin with a 5 and for it to include CPO.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I figured his price was too high for a car without CPO. cargurus tells me the car is overpriced by $3800 for the area. My problem is I have fallen in love with Firesand Orange and those are few and far between indeed. Finding a good deal is not as easy as people make it out to be. Guess the hunt continues.

If anyone knows of a fully optioned S or V8S with less than 10k miles for a good price ping me. I'm definitely a willing buyer ready to pull the trigger, but I'm not willing to overpay and will wait for a good deal.

Thanks,
-m

Have you put in a bid yet? If not, send an email offering $59k inc CPO. Nothing to lose, the worst he can do is say no - in the meantime you can continue your search.

I have a feeling he will come back to you and try to work a deal. At the end of the day he is a salesman with a product to shift, and has someone that is interested in it (you). He wouldn't be a very good salesman if he lets you walk away like that.

And yes, Firesand BY FAR the best color on the F Type!!

Yeah, I bought mine from a Porsche dealer; one owner, BRG 2014 V8S, hard loaded plus almost $4K in additional Jag carbon fiber components with only 5500 miles and almost immaculate condition.

My Jag dealer had a one-owner, off lease Fireside Oranage 2014 V8S with 23K miles and not nearly as optioned with more obvious wear and tear but included the lower CPO warranty.

Both were listed at $62K and both fell to $60K after a bit. I waited another month and the best the Jag dealer could do was come down to $57.5K without the CPO. I waited another couple of weeks and Jag dealer said no way they could do better (and I am a repeat customer as I buy my RRs there); they just had too much into it.

I actually preferred the BRG with the Brogue interior over the Firesand with black interior anyway so I went back to the Porsche dealer with the much higher-optioned car in almost new condition and much lower mileage; offered them $55K- and made the deal.

I went back to the Jag dealer and purchased a 4-yr, 75K extended warranty for almost 3K so total price is about the same as the Jag vehicle with no warranty.

The Jag dealer still has their car on the lot after months of sitting.

So I agree with others; offer lower and go from there as you never know what the back office story of each vehicle is going to be.

Well, I haggled him down to flat $60k out the door including all fees and 6yr/100k CPO warranty. Covered transport will prolly add around $1500 and is not part of the deal. Decisions, decisions....

Hop on a plane and enjoy the drive home. A lot less expensive and safer for the car.

I believe if I drive it off the lot I'm subject to local sales tax, no? Oregon doesn't have sales tax. 4% NY sales tax on a $60k car is still $2400. If I'm not subject to taxation driving it home does sound appealing.

Generally you have to pay tax when you register the car in your state.

+1. With proof of residence outside the state, the dealer is not obligated to collect it from you.

If the car is in Oregon, you might be able to open up an LLC in that state and buy the car through the company, but that seems like a hassle to avoid your state laws. It also might be frowned upon by government types. That said, Montana does have one of the highest supercar per-capita ratios of any state for a reason.

As an owner of a gorgeous white with black pack R I could take offense to that....except I agree. I love that color in the F-Type. I wanted it but none in CO. The dealer could have got one out of Florida but he was going to rape me to do it. And I mean rape....

Well... found a V8 in New Mexico in Firesand Orange. Picking it up next week. Pretty excited. No fees or taxes for driving it off the lot Will enjoy the hell out of the 1300 mile drive home.
