Heated windshield?
You're in Monterey. Why would you need a screen heater designed to melt ice?
Does anyone else need help in justifying the removal of something they don't like about their car?
doesn't bother me - you get used to it. I had it on my last Jag as well so this is not a new stimulus for my brain. Great feature for northern climates.

I have one on mine, I hate it, How much was it to replace the windshield?
I have the heated windshield on both my Xe and F type and I don't notice it while driving, unless I look for it.
It is pretty much necessary around here with the cold winter and ice as its a real time saver when you need to clean your windshield after ice etc.
If I lived in the South, I could do without it.

Oh, so that is what it is for (ice.) I just figured it was a quick defroster. I used it a few time last winter with all the CA rain we had.
One time, when driving towards the low sun, I got a pretttty rainbow (light diffracting off the filaments) but coudn't much see out of the windshield... Otherwise hasn't bothered me.

I have them on my new T-Type 400 Sport and must say i haven't noticed them at all even at night. I need to really focus to see them.
It may be a subconscious thing, you know when you are looking at a new car then suddenly see them everywhere of someone points something out to you then you cant stop thinking about it etc.
Hopefully this wont happen to me after writing this lol.

I believe these electrically heated front screens were first introduced by Ford as Quickclear(in Europe) Instaclear in US, Ford owned Jaguar fgom early 1990s to 2008 approx.
Anyone who lives in a climate that has snow and ice in Winter will find them invaluable.

The first volume customer for them was Ford for fitting to their rally cars. Had this not been the case, it is unlikely the heated options would have been pursued as it was technically challenging to manufacture and the unit cost deterred all but the most determined.

I was working in safety glass manufacturing in the early 70's when heated windscreens were being developed and had one of the prototypes fitted in my XJ6 Series 1. This was more sophisticated than the later production pattern as it had separate left and right side heating elements which could be used together or independently.
