I don't know if this is appropriate (I'm not a jaguar owner at the moment) but I'm currently looking at this jaguar f type 340hp. It has 7k miles, 1 CPO also a 4k mile or 90 day warranty., it's currently listed at 38k usd I've been told not to get it because jaguar history of unreliability but I want to hear from long time owners and those drive to work with it everyday. What should I expect such as maintenance and known issues etc. any tips would also be appreciated. Thank tou
Dear Lord in heaven…will the unreliability myth never die! I have owned many Jaguars. Every one of them has been a joy to own and drive, and all very reliable. One of our Jags is now 23 years old, driven everyday. It has been absolutely reliable in every way and runs as new.
The F-Type is an addictive beast. It is the most beautiful, most engaging, most fun, and most interesting car on the road (yes, I am biased and still trying to get over having owned a BMW). Oh…and then there is the sound. Absolutely mesmerizing. And it will be a classic.
That said, there are certain items that can eventually fail in the cooling system. The car you are considering will not have any issues for tens of thousands of miles/kms but eventually, changing three of the plastic coolant pipes in favour of aluminium pipes is recommended.
A close to new F-Type with a CPO warranty offers very little risk, but be warned that owning a first Jaguar is the start on a slippery slope of addiction.
As above. Just make sure it's been serviced as per Jag's schedule. And that you have the means to maintain it and fill up with premium gas. My 2018 averages 18 UK mpg when driven as it should, spiritedly!
Jaguar's "history of unreliability" is just that - history. Mainly propagated by people who have probably never even been in one, never mind owned one. My F-Type is the fourth Jag I've owned and none of them let me down or proved to be unreliable - the Japanese car I kept as a backup only gets driven twice a year - to and from the annual testing station. All you have to do is keep on top of the maintenance - and enjoy the drive!
As others have stated above, I'm so very tired of hearing the unreliability myth continuously being mentioned mostly be people who never have owned a Jaguar.
I personally have owned over twenty Jaguars from a Series 1 E-Type, Mk 2, many XJ6s, X200, X150, and now an X351, and not one of them has ever left me stranded on the side of the road.
The AJ126 fitted to the X152 you're interested in is a brilliant piece of kit, but gets very cross if overheated. Be sure to check for signs of any coolant seepage, even with low kilometres/miles. And probably most important, be sure it has a service history.
Be sure to get a pre-purchase inspection and check the Carfax. Check out the tires and get new ones as part of the deal if the current ones are worn. Ask about any time gaps in ownership. I've had my 2017 since late 2020. The coolant pipes and water pump were replaced under warranty in 2021. Since then it's only been tires and oil changes. The oil changes you can do yourself without a lift. The knowledge base here is second to none. Always someone to help you or answer a question.
Go for it and don’t look back. My F is a ‘vert that gets more smiles per gallon than any car I’ve owned. And, as others have said-the sound-simply intoxicating. Mine is nearing 60k-oil changes, brakes, bushings-all expected. Jaguar unreliability is history.

I have a 2018 F Type v6 base that has 416hp thanks to a software upgrade by VAP. 340hp is nice, but 416hp is REALLY nice. NEVER feels under-powered. It also has been lowered with H&R lowering springs [original springs available] which gets rid of almost all the body roll feel and I believe greatly enhances the stance. It truly is a great car [never any issues] with 13.5k miles in near mint condition inside and out. Always garaged and covered and plugged into a battery maintainer 24/7. I am selling it next month as I will be moving to Central America for much of the year. It will be priced about $35K [give or take]. I am in the LA area so let me know if you are interested.

As you are in California and have a 2018, are you concerned about the VAP tune when it comes time to smog your car? I ask since California's smog test sniffs out if a car was ever tuned even if the ecu is flashed back to stock.

Everybody with a tuned car in CA was concerned but apparently those who have their cars tuned [on this site] have made it through the smog tests without problems [unless I am unaware]. The only potential issues have been with those who have made more than software changes. There are a couple of threads that followed this over the past several years.
If looking at a '18-20, be sure to look at the daytime running lights, especially on the driver's side headlight. These are known to fail and while it may not be completely out, it likely will be dim compared to the passenger side and eventually will not work at all. Headlights are $5000 each so this is something you want addressed before purchasing.
Have you considered a 400 Sport? There's currently a CPO'd 400 at Jag Charleston. You get more HP on the V6 and some cool body and interior aesthetic options, and some are AWD. I am biased though ; ) Good luck on your F-Type hunt.
