In the ultimate irony, the 5liter supercharged is a match made in heaven for a manual transmission. Long satisfying pulls in 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears due to the extra wide powerband. Not like constantly hunting for the small powerband in German cars. And incredible low end torque, so the ability to take off in 2nd, or stay in 3rd when slowing down to 20mph.

But with modern traffic, particularly the Millennials, who for some reason, maybe texting, slow down after taking off from a red light (I think they watch the light, and then after they go they get back to checking their phone), a MT becomes a curse in some cities.

If you buy the velocity tune for your R, you can specify the SVR tune or the 605 hp tune. Stuart's team reverse engineered the SVR tune so he could tell you exactly what is in it. Feedback from those that have worked with stuart and tuned the 2wd R has been positive with both tunes, some believe the SVR tune is a tad more driveable, whereas the 605 tune is a handful. I find in warm weather when the PS4S grip is maximum the 605 tune is exactly what I wanted - just on the edge of lunacy, but still quite controllable. If you have an AWD model, I'd go straight to the 605 tune...

What I find amusing is that technically if you tune an R to the SVR tune, Jaguar would likely bust your ***** over warranty issues, yet, of course you are the same as the SVR. As noted on other threads, there is only one part number for the v-8 SC engine, whether its for the V-8S, R, or SVR.

Default My R warranty expires this month...

So guess what time it is!

First post. Excited new owner of a 9k mile Ftype R. It will be out of warranty by end of month, so I'll be giving Stuart a call

I have a lot planned for the car. This build is going to go for more wild than mild...

Welcome and congratulations. Looks brand new! Interior color? It would be helpful to have your year, model, etc. added to your signature block when asking and answering questions. Look forward to the wild mods!

As regards earlier nonsense about devices that improve 0 to 60 acceleration, my experience of doing three runs on same tarmac and conditions and timing gear lead to 0.3 second variation between best and worst, obviously due to driving differences, even wirh the same driver.

EXACTLY!
The clown that is promoting the throttle gadget isn't in touch with reality and he won't listen to even the most basic logic which is why I placed him on IGNORE about a week ago.

You have me confused with someone else

The device I believe improves 0-60 acceleration is a hip flask.

I missed one like yours last week but this week I managed to catch a black one with the extras I wanted. It has more miles than I was looking for (28k) but I've got 2 years of Jaguar approved official warranty and the 4 new tires so I'm very happy ... and nervous! In principle, 2 months ago, I was thinking about getting a V6 ... after the V6S and finally I knew that I should go for the R ... I thought it would be at the end of the summer but I found this opportunity and if there are no strange problems of paperwork , in 3 weeks I will have it at home (Spain, car bought at Germany).

I really do not see the time to hear that bellow! It may seem exaggerated but it is the main cause of choosing this car: D

It can also suddenly reduce or stop acceleration.

Not busting out the good stuff for a 0-60 run. Plus I would require a camel back instead of a hip flask!

Just got setup with VAP’s supercharger pulley, 200 cell sport cat downpipes and tune on 93. Car is significantly faster and louder. Very happy with the results. I may just ask them to adjust the throttle response as it is a little sensitive.

Well, I see a lot of inner fighting over the throttle gadget and nobody is right and nobody is wrong. A few years ago I had the honor of sitting in a training meeting with the GM team working on the Corvette powerplant. And the issue of tuners changing the parameters that control the speed and angle of throttle opening came up. A whole discussion about delays in throttle opening and proportional opening based on parameters such as emissions, load and fuel efficiency followed. Drive by wire throttles are controlled by a servo that is controlled by the ECU and not by your foot as in the old mechanical ones. Tuners have been tweaking those settings to open up the throttle faster on the Corvette engines resulting in faster acceleration times. That is a FACT. This was not met with an increase of HP or Torque obviously... BMW tuners reported doing the same with the same results. I am sorry but we have that already in our cars, it's the button that enables DYNAMIC mode. There is no need for that on the F-Type.

Of course using throttle remapping or these OBDII devices will make your car pollute a lot more...

The Lexus LFA V10 has such a device that allows for instant F1 or Motorbike type of response. So quick that a traditional tachometer could not be used accurately.
That device is a very oversquare engine and ditching 2 cylinders to reduce rotational mass.
Without that its physically moot to get the signal to the engine in a millisecond when the command can only be executed in seconds.

The LFA revs to 9000rpm in half a second.

That is a fact but it is also a fact that it is all done inside the cars computers and not by adjusting the throttle pedal itself. Increasing the speed by which the pedal appears to hit wide open by milliseconds is not going to have any measurable effect and that is what the discussion was all about.

Please read carefully what I wrote. It also controls the opening angle. This means that even if you floor the pedal, it may NOT open the throttle 100% and let's assume that you are in 2nd gear at 4500RPM and have a wide open throttle, the throttle can and will under certain circumstances open from say 50% to 100% as the RPMs go up. I am not talking about milliseconds. You can use an ODBII monitor and really see the pedal position sensor and throttle angle sensors substantially delayed. Before I attended that class I only assumed that the delay would be what the throttle servo delay could be based on it's speed but I was incorrect.

I have the VAP tune on my R without the pulley and it certainly does make a difference... for rear wheel drive its about all the tires will handle under most conditions, even the PSS tires. Of course you have the pulley as well for even more power.

The 55 or so horsepower is not a huge lift over stock, however the remap they do on throttle response really brings it home. In my experience you get used to it and may regret if you tone it down.

I don't disagree with any of that but, as I said before, everything you are describing is happening in the cars computers. The Accelerator Pedal Position sensor (APP) is just a twin track potentiometer that receives two independent power supply from the ECM and sends two independent analogue signals back to the ECM.

One track outputs half the voltage of the other so that they can be checked against each other to make sure the signal is correct. Changing the potentiometer so that the voltage changes in half the time isn't going to magically override the ECM which is what the original discussion was all about. All you end up with is a very twitchy and sensitive throttle.
