Default It's A Wrap

Yesterday I had the XPel protection kit installed on the hood, fenders, bumper, headlamps and mirrors. The company that performed the install are located in Walnut Creek, Ca. and are excellent at their craft.

They needed the car for two days and I'm glad they did not "rush" the install. The owner showed me how they removed the louvers and at every panel they folded over the film protection, creating a seamless cover.

This install was frankly necessary as I drive from Lake Tahoe to the Bay Area with some regularity. Now that the front end is protected, I'll be able to enjoy the ride even more (if that's possible!)

Hey, Dave - I've been chasing up an Xpel installer here in Melbourne., as that film seems to be getting the most widespread positive reviews. Can you tell me - did they do the hood in one piece with no visible seams? Would prefer not to see any seams if possible. Thx

The installer informed me that he used a "larger" piece than the one that comes with the kit. This enabled him to virtually eliminate any visible seams. It is those seams that can build up residue and become noticeable over time.

I also have an Xpel ultimate wrap on the front have of mine. My installer was able to do the entire hood (and wrap the edges) with one piece and ZERO seams. It can be done!

Just found out the best installer in the Toronto area is booking into June. Not crazy about driving for a month without protection. Hmmm.

Mine is already done, however, wondering whom you recommend.

Do you know if your installer used a pre-cut pattern for the full hood, or if he did a custom cut? My long-time installer says he can't find a pattern for the 2016 R AWD hood. This isn't good because I am to do the dealer handover tomorrow and was planning on making the trek to the installer immediately after.

Can you please shoot a couple of close-ups of your hood? Am curious how they handled the "vents," since that's what separates the 2014-2015 patterns from our design.

Thanks, much!

Based on all the posts, it appears that the only way to cover the entirety of the F-Type hood (RWD or AWD) with a fold over the edges is to use Xpel film from a bulk roll.

Going with Armoured Film. He's ordered in the Xpel (mostly does Ventureshield for dealers). Will be done on May 13.

Hood is one piece, but he's not going to pop the vents for fear of breaking the clips. Getting hood, fenders, bumper, lights, mirrors iand A-pilllar done.

I can tell you DuhCar that my installer popped those vents out; quite easily he said, without any problem. For what that's worth.

Good luck!

I took a few photos, but there is NOTHING to see. The vents were removed and wrapped, and replaced in the hood. Looking at my installers website, they most likely did NOT use any sort of template.

East Bay Auto Spa, off of North Main in Walnut Creek. The cost was $1500.00 total.

Might be quite timely for me. I just spoke with my Xpel dealer. When the car comes in, I'll have it wrapped back to just in front of the doors, on the rockers and the wing. The rest will be C-Quartzed.
Jim, any guess whether Xpel will be offering a discount or a rebate?
