Default Just pulled this from front heat shield

Can somebody identify what this woven fiber is? It was poking from the slats as I tried to image here. What came out was a really long fiber/string, frayed on both ends. Came out with no resistance, I just lightly pulled on the end that was coming out it slipped out. It is not an electrical wire. Also hard to imagine this formed part of this woven material previously. Is there anything behind this shield that would explain this? I did have some prolonged rattling like you'd have with rocks, kept going on the highway and then stopped. I saw this when I checked at home and you know the rest. Any help is appreciated!

Yeah, I checked under the hood and then the dealer, looks like a belt’s busted. It’s a 2023 R with 3300 miles. I got it about 4 months ago with 1800 miles, no significant issues on history… what gives?

Geez, that’s unlucky on a car that new.

Possible the belt was missed on one of the pulleys, if one rib is over the outside it will strip off that piece like you found.

Happens, that's why there's warranty. Get it fixed and move on, no major harm done.

Belts have a shelf life, so you do not know how long ago that belt was made, but my bet would be the belt had a fault in it somewhere.

Thanks for the tips and reassurance, y’all. Just got the car back - they said all the pulleys are good, the belt just delaminated and shredded up. Drove good on my way home. Curious if I have the record for the youngest busted belt. Cheers.
