Default Keyfob question

I currently have only 1 keyfob for my 2015 F-type S convertible and want at least 1 more. The company I purchased the car from will pay for a new keyfob and its programming. The problem is that the new keyfob is on back order with no ETA. Does anyone know if I can purchase a used keyfob from another F-Type like a 2016 model and get it programmed for my car? The keyfobs would be from a junkyard. I would think this is possible and I can acquire the used fobs for around $50 but I am not sure. Thanks for any insight that you may have.

The new supply is so restricted that new cars are being delivered with only a single fob and the promise of a second sometime in the future. I can't help with whether a used one can be repurposed, sorry.

I easily found several F-Type key fobs on Ebay for short money.
Thye looked same as mine (2021) and also other designs.
I would compare photos with your current fob.

Some experts are saying it's going to get worse before it gets better. Relief is estimated at sometime in 2023. Crazy!

Intel actually just broke ground on two more plants in Arizona, but they are saying due to the complexity of building a plant they won't be done until 2024. It's still a long way off.....

I ordered this exact item from this Ebay seller for my 2014. Dealer had no problem programming it, it's been working great for a year.

I just bought a 2018 XJ-R but it has only one key fob. No locksmith wants to touch the programming on a 2018...2017 and earlier okay. They say the 2018 had software updates that will destroy 5k worth of electronics if aftermarket programming is used. They suggest dealer only...At $650! Any suggestions are welcome, please. Thanks.

One of our FOBs was like that one. I always ask to see all FOBs when buying a used car.

Didn't think to look inside both for an emergency key, tho'. That costs an additional ~$100 USD from a dealer (tied to the VIN).

Sorry, the only thing I can confirm is that the dealer will, indeed, charge at least $650 for the new fob and programming. Just did it 5 weeks ago for my '17 XJL.

Just learned from the local Jag dealer that they have been out of newer Jag key remotes since mid-October with no daylight before mid-December...maybe. Jag has put them on backorder due to chip shortages. The parts guy knew of two $80K+ Range Rovers parked because the owners misplaced their only keys. I found one (dealer's last one!) 90 minutes away so I'm getting it programmed on Thursday and will come home with a much thinner wallet!

Or - you could sell it to one of the owners of the range rovers for a hefty mark-up!
