Lost Cracks and Pops (K309 Update)
I had several warranty items addressed on my 2016 F-Type R at the dealership this week. Several of them were software related and, unfortunately, it looks like they just updated every module on the car including the PCM. After I picked it up I noticed that I had a significantly quieter exhaust which I do not like. I think they loaded the K309 update to the PCM. Is there anyway to reverse this or an additional update available? I read from a member on the forum who goes by ek993 that update K309v3 or JTB00495 might resolve this but it look like that might only be for a 2015? Has anyone else dealt with this? Thanks for the help.
Thanks Breaker. I sure hope I have the same results you did, I don't like the muted soundtrack. I have a nice long 2+ hour roadtrip this weekend with it so I'll be sure to open it up. If it comes back great, if not I'll need to go back to the dealer and see what can be done.
So I had a couple of nice long drives with the F-Type this weekend. Some of the cracks and pops returned but it is definitely more subdued than it was previously. I can only get loud pops or a series of pops while in sport "manual" mode. I'd like to get some of that noise back. Has anyone had luck getting the dealer to load up JTB000495? My VIN ends in K33518 in case there is another update that would apply to that.
Indeed it will. Been there. Done that. VAP rocks!

I'm sure it will and I do plan to do some work with Velocity AP (tune, pulley and 200 cell cats at a minimum) as soon as I'm out of warranty in the spring, but I'd like it to roar again in the meantime!
From the anecdotes I've been reading on this site and across the web it seems the muted exhaust is most common on 14/15/16 model year cars that have the K309 update applied by dealers, and its a 50/50 shot if it messes with the exhaust sound. If the car comes with an fully updated ECU from the factory it seems like the sound is always fine. I'm wondering if older SDD software could have an effect on how the patch/update is implemented. That might explain why dealer implemented updates cause issues, they likely do not have the most up to date SDD software while the factory surely does.
My updates were applied by the dealer (without my knowledge or consent), and the only noticeable difference is the lack of dynamic mode memory and the startup still roars as before but it quietens down more quickly. No idea about the dealer diagnostics but I understand they should be using the Pathfinder system for newer models now, not SSD?
200 cell cats are fine on the V8, but sound ratty on the V6.
I've got the V8 and watched some videos with the 200 cell cats fitted and I like it. Sounds a little raspier and LOUDER! I might looks at their exhaust/muffler options at some point as well.
A quick update on this, I got back all of the stock exhaust cracks and pops, but purely by accident.
My F-Type suffers from the common OBD battery drain issue. I had plugged a reader into the car last Sunday and forgot to remove the negative battery terminal after I was done. The car sat for a few days and when I went to go for a drive the car was completely dead, I had to jump it. Since then the exhaust seems to be back to how it formerly was. Maybe I'm imagining it but it definitely seems louder than it was before the battery had died.
