Arrow Lunar Grey

Have any of you purchased the Lunar Grey F-Type or seen it in person?

The order I have given to the dealership GM is for Stratus Grey. I'm having second thoughts since it appears black so much of the time. I now have an XK and XF both in Ultimate Black and do not want a black F-Type.

One thing to think about is whether the paint color is one of the xirallic paint options. The xirallic colors really and truly "pop" in bright light - it really makes the car look special. Lunar grey is a lovely color, but it's standard metallic and not xirallic. Great color though. I can safely say that of all the compliments I get about my own car - and like most F Type owners I get a lot - a fair few are about the color. Stratus Grey is xirallic.

Some info on xirallic paint - http://www.richardaucock.com/xirallic-what-is-it/

I've seen it on the convertible. Its a good color, it just didn't seem to have as much depth as the stratus. Hard to describe. No one in the area has the color for you to check out? Stratus is definitely good at showing fingerprints, lol :/

i agree with swajames and ungineer.
i started off my order with lunar grey, but after seeing it in person i felt it was very flat.

Thanks everyone. I really wanted the xirallic paint. I've read the post about it and it sounds like it really makes the color more "alive" to use Jaguars tag. I just started thinking a about how dark Stratus looks w/o bright light.

Those of you who have Stratus, do you find overall it tends to looks gray most of the time?

I love the stratus grey. It looks grey in light. One thing I love about it is how it changes color throughout the day and light conditions. It is dark, and does need to be washed more often than my silver car.

More like off-black, lol. Very dark in low light. Graphite grey in direct sun and BRIGHT indoor lighting.

Graphite is actually the color I'm looking for. I love the pics I've seen of Stratus on a sunny day. I guess the color really is a chameleon.

Yes in fact BMW uses an almost identical xirallic paint and called it Dark Graphite.

Manufacturers share similar pigments because I think there is still only one producer of xirallic pain, in Japan.

After reading this I googled the BMW in dark graphite. Very pretty color in some of the pics I saw. It did not seem as dark as stratus in low light. On the other hand, in the pics I saw dark graphite wasn't as nice a color as stratus. Maybe it's just the way the colors show on the different style cars, but I prefer stratus much more.

The GM at the dealership told me he now has a stratus XK in the showroom. I'm going to go have a look at the color.

FWIW i had a BMW in Dark Graphite and the F-Type in Stratus Grey parked side by side in my garage until i returned the bimmer.
the paint looked identical to me.

Thanks for the post. I like having first hand info like that. As I said I think it may have been the pics of the BMW I was looking at that made the color look different than stratus. I appreciate your input, I need opinions as I'm making my decision.

I REALLY liked Singapore Grey when they put it on the new M6. Kinda wish Stratus was a shade or two lighter like that. Aston's Quantum Silver is still probably my favorite though.

I guess I will stay with stratus, even though like you, I wish it were a shade lighter.

Have you considered going in a completely different direction? Firesand looks really good in a range of lighting conditions, and will really pop when parked next to an Ultimate Black car.

Although I love the color orange, firesand is a little too bold for me. The colors I started out considering in the F-Type are -
Polaris
Stratus Gray
IRR

Then I began thinking about Lunar Gray. Now I'm just not sure.

As swajames mentioned and the others agreed, Lunar is not xirallic and looks flat. So I am now between the Stratus Gray and Italian Racing Red.

You know, Lunar Grey is a very nice color, though... I almost bought an XK a few years back and the car I initially ordered was that color. I don't think you'd go wrong with any of the three on your list, but equally you won't blend in with the crowd with the Italian Racing Red - I personally think the IRR looks great on these cars too.

Good luck and keep us posted!
