Mentally Challenged by the Loud Pedal
I have now owned my F Type V6 S for a year and I love it. I can only say thank goodness I didn't go for the R as I am quite certain that I would be in prison by now
.
I am wondering if the rest of you suffer the same mental challenge that prevents rational thought that I am often faced with. I find it very hard indeed to not push the loud pedal further than I should and while I 'only' have 380 horses at my disposal they certainly propel this sleek machine to going to jail speeds quickly. Just today I found myself on an unoccupied stretch of road around the back side of an airport and thought - wow that corner is coming up awfully fast - then noticing I was at 110 mph!!! What on earth is wrong with me? Fortunately the amazing brakes and handling allowed me to navigate the corners with relative easy and not much drama - but thats really not the point here - it was a 35mph road
.
Do I need help? Do you suffer from the same problems and if so how do you overcome the urge to press that pedal. The other problem is that whenever this happens to me I get all smiley and giggle - which in high insight seems so wrong, your help and suggestions are welcome.

Common problem. I was on the interstate in Montana/Idaho several weeks ago, and there is a stretch of very curvy road going through a mountain pass. I was passed by a 911 traveling at a high rate of speed and decided it might be fun to give chase. I was grinning ear-to-ear and laughing out loud. My wife asks me 'Do you have to do that EVERY time?' I overcome the urge by leaving it in the garage and driving the grocery getter.
I fight the urge every time I drive the damn thing. It’s just so easy and so much fun. I try not to be “that guy” that drives like a total ***. I try to reserve hooligan mode for out in the boondocks with absolutely no one around.

Yes I have it too. I regularly hit 100 mph most times I’m on the highway and have seem 142 mph. The V6 S
screams like a F1 car going through the gears at optimum rpm and I love every moment. Yes it is extremely hard not using the go pedal as it was designed and on back roads definitely hard to keep it under 80 mph. Thank god I live in the country where I can enjoy this great Jag. Yes I have a problem!

I’m surprised we are the only ones with this mental affliction, but if that’s the case I’m happy to have it🤣🤣🏎🏎

I have exactly the same problem but I learned to respect the V6S very early on when I engaged Dynamic mode and about half throttle on an empty highway. Yikes! The distance covered and the speed reached in the blink of an eye was shocking...there is no legal way to use the potential of this car on urban roads or suburban roads...but it certainly is satisfying to know what it can do.
These are simply fabulous cars.

Yes These jags are outrageous, the sound the v6 makes is intoxicating. One of the best v6 songs out there, they scream. I’ve planted my foot to the floor on many occasions and what a satisfying way to hear the exhaust and get to where I’m going. This motor revs to redline in a heartbeat. Sweet sounds for sure.
Totally normal. I would say if you didn't have the urge to do it every time, that would classify you as strange
When I need to be a hoon but don't want to worry about stuffing it in the pickers or checking the mirrors every 5 seconds for the police, I hop on my slightly tweaked little 125 Honda Monkey because I can flog the absolute wee out of it through the gears and be lucky if I hit 65 mph!

I have exacerbated the situation by modding and adding 200 cell Cats/Downpipes, and Intake updates. It is crazy loud now, and at high rpms feels/sounds like I am driving a NASCAR vehicle. Sadly, I do not know of a cure, other than steer clear of the "PoPo" .

Weirdly I drive my R slower than I drive my Mum's 986 Boxster S. I think the anti-social levels of noise make me think I'm going much faster than I am, and make me conscious that I'm drawing a lot of attention towards myself.

It's not you - it's the car. Years ago, I took a friend out to show off my '67 e-Type. We were on a back road doing exactly 110 as we approached a marked 25 mph curve. Without the F-Type's handling, brakes, or tires (at least they were Michelin red walls), it was "exciting." So, apparently it's in the Jaguar genes. The main difference is that in the F-Type, you don't realize you're going 110 until you look.
Actually the phenomenon of speed unnoticed in a Jaguar has always been a hallmark of this make and it has often been commented upon. The XJ6 and XJ12 cars and their successors were particularly noted for this - the difference now is that the F-Type has that luscious exhaust sound while the sedans were virtually silent at speed. In fact, Jaguar used to use the word "silent" in their advertising even in the late 1930's (but standards change...).
In the sedans it is the absence of engine noise, vibration or any other indicator of speed...I have found myself unwittingly at supralegal speeds very often in a variety of Jaguars...only the speedometer tells the tale.
