Thank You Mr Oz....as I am not into the aesthetic value of the upper....I LOVE that SC whine....My friend Larry Taylor (The Mole) of CANNED HEAT digs it too.
Just talked with Chris at Mina and ordered the Lower Intake/Filter....thanks guys and gals.I will be huntin down the DIY next week...Jaguarforums.com is the BOMB!!!
Just installed the full Mina kit on Saturday with the Injen X-1021-BB dry filters and the Injen dry socks. The filters fit and cleared fine, and we drove about 100 miles over the weekend with no issues. SC whine is definitely noticeable from the front of the vehicle, and I'd imagine under load sounds pretty insane. From inside the cabin (vert), you can hear it with the top up or down, but only under heavy throttle, and the exhaust note overpowers it as you approach the redline. It's actually kind of subtle, and adds a really nice exotic feel to the already amazing soundtrack. I'd imagine if you have a pulley the SC noise would be MUCH louder, but the rest of my vehicle is stock, and I love the way it blends with the exhaust notes.
I had a hell of a time getting the silicone tubes on the lower intake to line up in the nose and not be pressing against the wheel arches. As it is they're contacting them and putting a slight bow in the arches. The tires don't rub that I've been able to tell, but has anyone else had this problem? I spent a good 45 minutes or so just manipulating the pipes trying to get them to not contact the arches, and this was as good as I could get it.
Too long. I also was trying to replace the R badge on my bumper grille, so we pulled the bumper where you wouldn't normally have to. It's only a few extra screws, and has hanger hooks and a screw plate near the headlights that align it, so it wasn't that hard but added a lot of time because I had the filters too high up on the brackets at first (they were contacting the bumper when I went to put it back on) and ended up having to go through and loosen all the clamps and adjust everything around to get the filters and tubing to clear the bumper and the fender liners. If I had left the bumper and fender liners in place I wouldn't have had to do the rework (assuming I took the time to check clearance when initially fitting the pipes), but having the bumper off made access to all the hoses and clamps relatively painless. I think it's worth the extra time to pull the bumper and have easier access, but others may have better luck or smaller hands. It took about 7 hours, all in, with a handful of breaks because I'm out of shape and it was about 90F and humid while I was working. If I didn't have to re-align all the piping and didn't drop the bumper and didn't take breaks I probably could have had it done in 5.
Just left Jaguar do to the wheel rub you will run into with this kit. Only had it on drivers side I wanted to make sure everything was OK still. Solution was to remove the top wheel liner clip out and running issue was solved. I have 265 35 20 front tires though and all tires differ slightly in width so you may be good to go anyways.

Where did you get those nice black/red silicones and black steel bands from?
I assume not from Mina becuase they included to my set just regular metal ones.

The silicone couplers came from Flex Technologies out of California (siliconehose.com), the clamps are a company called P2M, got them from a local speed shop in Central Florida called Enjuku Racing (enjukuracing.com). I got the upper pipes from a fellow forum member local to me who had them powdercoated crinkle black, and got the lower kit directly from Mina. I really like how it came out.

You had a wheel actually rubbing the liner? My drivers side is closer than the passenger also, but I think I may have enough clearance. I've got about an inch with the wheel at full lock, and the tightest part is around the mid-line of the wheel, so it shouldn't get closer under compression. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it. It took a LOT of adjusting to get it all to line up. I loosened the clamps on both sides on the outlet side of the MAF, the lower pipe to upper pipe join, and the upper pipe to y-pipe join on the upper pipe side and just pushed and twisted until things started to protrude a little less into the wheel well. It helped a LOT having the bumper off to get in there when adjusting it all to line up, especially since I popped the coupling off the MAF a couple times before I got it as good as I could. I still ended up with a slight protrusion in both wheel wells, and the pipes are really close to the strut bases for the hood prop...it's a really tight fit under there. lol

yea very minor rubbing just drivers side. Only could hear it when turning as far as I could backing out of driveway or parking spaces. Passenger side clears by a couple millimeters but yea my drivers side protrudes just enough. I still have the Mina filters on so who knows after I swap over to the Injen ones.

Unless the Mina filters are pushing against the bumper and moving the whole assembly back a bit, I'd think the filter itself shouldn't change the position of the pipe because the bracket sits between them.

haha...yeah, it's normally under a cover. I've been slacking.

no no I mean the Injen filters are just slightly different in size. Not enough to make a difference but if I remember correctly the Mina is slightly larger at the base than the Injen so if that is the case it will give me just enough clearance to but the top liner tab back in. If not if I have to leave just the top tab out so be it. Not gonna hurt anything that way anyways lol

I'm not following...you're talking about the plastic push-pin with the screw that screws into it that attaches the top of the wheel liner to the body of the car, right? Just can't wrap my head around how pulling that gives more wheel clearance and how the shape of the filter would help. It's your silicone pipe for the lower intake that's causing the intrusion into the wheel well, right, which limits clearance because it puts a little bulge in the liner shape? That's my issue.
For what it's worth, the Injen filter I sourced is a little wider at the top than the Mina, but about a half inch shorter, and identical at the flange and base.

haha sorry no for mine the filter itself is pressing against the upper wheel liner. The pipe itself clears just fine. For some reason the base of the filter on that side sits out just enough to press against the liner. Yea you are correct I am talking about about plastic push pin. All they did while servicing the car this morning was remove that top one and it makes it loose just enough that the filter base does not press it out where the tire can make contact. Don't ask me how I don't get it either all I know is that it worked. I would have thought removing that would make the liner stick out even farther to cause more rubbing. Somehow it does not and it fixed the issue for me.

Do you have any pictures from the install? My filters aren't anywhere near the wheel liner at all. They're close to the front bumper, just behind the side grille covers, and close to the lower underbody cover, I just can't see how they could ever touch the fender liner...I had issues getting that upper pin and the inner bolt that faces the center of the car into place in the wheel liner because my silicone pipes were pushing on the inside front of the fender liner. It sounds like a completely different problem. lol I really hope I didn't get something massively wrong...haha
I didn't snap a picture but will see if I can get a good enough shot of it. Mine might be installed improperly for all I know. I had a local lambo, gtr etc etc exotic sports car shop 15 seconds from my house do the install. It was already there getting detailed and ceramic coated so I figure why not let them do it too. They said it was tough to line it all up properly and took them awhile because they wanted it perfect for their reputation but who knows. I've been driving 3 weeks with them installed and besides the rubbing no issues of leaks or anything can be detected.

you are correct after looking at it from the side view and not the bottom it is bottom silicone pipe that is bulging out the liner a little.. crazy how it still fixed the issue for now minue the one push pin.
I will assume the Unhingd mantle for a moment.
Yes, the Mina upper and lower intake kits can be installed separately or together, which means the lower can be fitted to the stock upper.
Well that's what the Mina web site is implying as they advertise them separately and as a kit with both, see here: https://www.minagallery.com/f-type-performance-items/
I am tied up on a lot of projects and haven’t been able to spend much time on the forum. Thanks for the assist, Oz.
