Hey guys, I have a VAP stg3 2018 XE s, but I thought I would ask this question on the F type forum as there are more tuned cars here. I noticed my car was a bit sluggish, and then it misfired after a hard pull and later a p0420 code. I also notice a really strong smell of gas when driving. Are my cats done for? I would really rather it be something else as I live in California and passing smog will be an issue

 

That code definitely suggests that there's an issue. The aroma of fuel could be a leak. I think that's the downside of all the pops from the exhaust fireworks show.

 

I have this code present on my 2018 F type R, I have previously replaced four O2 sensors in the last three years, all in different locations as there are six O2 sensors. My car is stock, I also had a hint of fuel from the car, no miss though. I had a friend of mine who has a lot more equipment to test the car for a root cause as to why I am having these issues, but he could not find a problem. I have my car scheduled at a JLR dealer to double check if there is a problem with an injector or? causing this issue. Since your car is tuned can you gather data to see if there is an issue with a fuel injector dumping fuel?
If you have the pops and bangs intensified by the tune, that could also be the culprit, as dumping fuel in a hot cat is never a good idea.
