Tried search, so sorry in advance if covered. I've had the Audio/Video button on the main screen go gray on and off for some time now. An internet search came with lots of folks experiencing it, but I never did see anyone get any resolution. Well I thought I'd try removing the carplay unit, which had been giving me fits of its own, and even in stock form, the AV worked one day, but alas, not the next. So finally my question: Has anyone ever gotten an "entertainment system ONLY" update, that didn't involve the whole system? (i.e. kept your burps and burbles.....) Thanks!

What year is your car (Bosch vs Harman vs 2019+)? Can you run an OBD2 scan for error codes relating to the AV system? A picture of what you are referring to may help. How was your Carplay unit wired?

 

Thanks. Its a '15 with the bosch system. I scan at an indy with a much better tool that I have, showed no errors. The car play was one of the IDcore variety, but has been completely removed. See pic. The AV button is grayed out, and most of the head unit does nothing. Selecting Nav or phone, (while still white and selectable) does nothing. Thanks!

 

That is bizarre.

Before digging into the wiring to check connectors, I would do a hard reset by disconnecting the battery at the negative terminal for a couple of minutes then reconnect. See if that brings it back.

 

Well, it’s in Valet mode. I don’t what’s limited in that mode, but I’d figure out how to turn off Valet mode first!

 

Thanks. I should have given more background. I had done that several times, and even purchased a new primary AND secondary battery. That's why I'm at the "can I get a dealer reset" question. Thanks!

 

thanks, but actually, that button is always there, in order for you to put it INTO valet mode. Not in valet mode currently.... Thanks!

Interesting back at ya.... I had to chatgpt it, but apparently it didn't come standard until 2017. On your '14 and my '15, it was only on certain "packages...." who knew!

 

The other possibility is I’m a moron. Just drove my car, and yup, mine’s said Valet for the past 12 years. 🙄

Thanks. You could be right. My biggest issue is, that's its intermittent. Happens "sometimes...." And its usually at start up. Meaning once the car starts, its either on or off, and its like russian roulette not knowing if it will be on or off the next time I get in..... Thanks!
