Default More Warning Lights.....ugh!

So after my garage rat ate through the heater hose, all was well till last week.

First, the Low Battery warning came on, this after driving the car the day prior. Disconnected the battery etc, and it was OK. Again, it came on yesterday, so time to visit the dealer.

A few days ago, CEL came on, and it threw a code P0442. Small emission leak, likely a gas cap. Retightened the gas cap, reset the code, all is well. Last night we were 50 miles from home, and I got a "Faulty Gas Cap" warning. This morning, no faulty gas cap, but the CEL was on, and the same code!

At the dealer now.........ugh, its a good thing I love this car - my 2013 BMW F10 at 50K has never thrown a code yet.

Yes it is a good thing we love this car! Mines been in the shop 17 days since purchased as a CPO in October 2017. This last time was for a new differential. Other times for CEL (2 x o2 sensors) poor hood alignment, busted trim piece in boot, carpet cut too short, replace sticky bits in interior....

If the dealership was not so close (4 miles) I'd not be able to own this car.

Having a sense of humor helps doesn't it.

I think it must be luck (or lack thereof) of the draw. One would think you are safe from having issues like that with a CPO car.

I bought a V8S from a BMW dealership that had 3 months left on its warranty. I knew it needed a new SC coupler from the sound but that was it, figured anything major that might be under the surface would be taken care of under warranty.

Brought it to my local Jag dealer first thing after getting it home. Coupler swapped and not even a hint of an issue over the last year/10k miles. Also was pleasantly surprised that the previous owner had purchased the extended warranty and it was covered for 3 more years.

So far my engine and electrical system have been bulletproof.

Yeah, I can't tell you how many people ask me when I'm getting rid of the car (and of course the usual people making fun of me buying the car) and why Jaguar hasn't replaced the car, etc. I've, as of today, owned the car 157 days and for 54 (and counting) she's been in the shop. All for the same fault. Very few understand the "I love my car" response. Seems like people aren't like that about their cars as much anymore? Good luck and I hope yours is just something simple that's causing other codes to be thrown.

FWIW: my experience with random codes and warning lights has usually turned out to be the battery (needed to be replaced)...

So here is the update. The fuel filler cap/ CEL light was again caused by a f$%^#@ rat that ate the emissions hose that runs under the drivers seat. So here we go again, and while the car is in the shop I am emptying my garage and employing a rodent expert. I don’t think he is in the garage anymore, but I’m hoping this is the end of it!

The Lowe Battery Warning is still under investigation, as the battery passed the test. They are doing a software update and will recheck it after that is done.

I used Peppermint spray all over the engine compartment, and that seems to be OK. This one was under the car, by the drivers seat....I guess I need to spray there as well!

Take a very careful look under the supercharger (look from the backside of the engine near the windshield). I have seen mice tearing apart the insulation (between the supercharger and the oil cooler) and you may find it in pieces all around the oil cooler. Make sure that this did not happen to you It happened to me....

When the "low battery " warning comes on, it means what it says -regardless of the test result (I know this sounds odd...). Warning lights such as you are experiencing suggest that the battery is no longer putting out full voltage (either because of age or lack of frequent long runs) and when that happens you will get random symptoms which range from warning lights to the touch screen freezing to windows, seats and convertible top not working properly, exterior lamps coming on unbidden...in every case it is the battery. The solution is easy if your car is garaged at night - a CTEK or similar battery maintainer used when the car is not in use.

Last month the rat ate my heater hose, and the leak was all over the back of the engine, so I have sprayed the area liberally with Peppermint! Also, have decided an empty garage is less hiding spaces, so all the clutter and boxes are gone.

The dealer has replaced the battery, so hopefully its all good now!

It's my understanding that here is a special tape you can wrap certain wires and components with that is specifically targeted at discouraging mice and rodents from going after soy based rubber products. I think Honda has a product like this? Also like you said.....critter proof that garage and the perimeter of your house. Pros know what to look for and where to keep those *******s out.

Just had a rat specialist by today, and based on everything I have now done, he thinks we are good. Time will tell......

Yes, its made by Honda. Problem is eveything is so damn tight under the engine compartment, not sure how much I can get to.
