Are my wheels not originally black?
Hi All,
Recently, I was pumping tires and I ran my fingernail against my rim and I was able to scratch off the black coating. This made me wonder if my wheels were originally black or were they silver?
If it wasn't black originally, any ideas on how to remove this coating? Is it spray paint or plastidip? or powder coat?

You can look at the brochure for your model year at the link below, and check out wheel options. Yours are familiar.

The video suggested plastidip to me, and they looked a bit dull in the pic where they are clean, which is also looking like plastidip, but usually you would have 4 coats plus on them but maybe there is only one or two. If it is plastidip it will probably come off if you give it a rub with degreaser

That said, the OP's wheels definitely look plastidipped. If I were in that situation and wanted to keep them black, I would either clean off the existing plastidip and re-do the job with better technique or (more likely) have them professionally powdercoated.
