MY18 and Newer: 3G Only Connectivity?
For those in the USA with MY18 and newer cars, do we know if the internal cellular modem can support connections other than 3G? As many probably know, the three major carriers in the USA are going to sunset 3G service in 2022 (AT&T as early as February 2022). I always see 3G on my display for the vehicle connectivity for the navigation system and I didn't know if that's just the default icon for the connectivity or if it only connects with 3G service. Mine is a March 2017 build but 4G was certainly well underway in 2017 so I imagine the infotainment hardware refresh for MY2018 updated the modem vs the MY2013-2017 cars. Does anyone know if it can also utilize 4G/LTE as well? Will a new SIM improve functionality or is it hardware-limited to the modem itself?
No idea about the internal SIM but I get 4G shown on my connectivity screen, which is what my user SIM is. AFIAK, the nav stuff comes over the user SIM, not Jaguar's network (they're too mean to fund our facilities!). That's in the UK, the USA may be different, of course.
Forgot to add: mine is also a March 2017 build.

From long discussions on the F-Pace forums, I believe you're fine on MY18 and newer. MY17 is probably capped at 3G and will die next year when AT&T sunsets.
It shouldn't affect Navigation, per se, but things like real time traffic will be lost. It hard to imagine why there's such a gap, given there was extended visibility to the transition.
I don't know the technical detail on the second SIM that is JLR use only, but I expect it's the same story.
There doesn't seem to be an easy fix - other than to use your phone. Those that have CarPlay have that option, although there's still the audio issue with no fix in sight.

Good info, thanks. I know most folks here dump on the JLR navigation but I've been quite impressed with it (I use Waze via CarPlay in my daily driver). More importantly, I was impressed with the accuracy and timeliness of real-time traffic information and the rerouting as a result. I use the live search feature too which has also been great. And the occasionally satellite view for trying to find something that's off the road.

About the JLR navigation... including the ICTP in my F-Type I've been using the last three generations of JLR navigation systems over the 8 last years on countless drives all around continental Europe. They all served me brilliantly 99% of the time.
Sure, after market navigators or mobile apps may be more user friendly and can have better live data but my experience is that the JLR satnavs work great if you know how to use them and add some common sense. I've also compared to the systems from BMW, Audi, Volvo and other brands over the years and none has felt significantly better (if better at all) than the JLR systems. Most complaints I've seen have come from UK drivers and I suspect that it's mainly because the map data quality for the UK is crap.

This issue of 3G is annoying but not fatal as the real time traffic was ok but was annoying when it constantly asks me to reroute for traffic. That I won’t miss, plus the traffic info was hit or miss a lot.
as for the nav system overstating arrival times…I know what you mean as I have the same thing happen to me…wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more…..

The only weirdness I've found in my F-Type is it reports a static camera on the wrong side of the road, so I get warned when it's trying to catch the oncoming traffic.
