Wow. There is a pen clip on the interior side of the glove compartment door that I never recognized. Why isn't a lovely branded pen included?
I've mentioned just how odd the behaviour is on climate control. Still is weird. I don't touch it much. But the discovery is that when the car is off you can definitely no?t turn on rear defrost
Also not as good... Sometimes the screen goes black, while reverse camera is on, and it is wonky to get it to turn back on. Not sure what is going on. It might be about the door opening to check on driver's side curb during tactical parking. Is it easy to set the left mirror to tilt downwards (in U.S.) during parking as well?
Also, some driver side front fender clips must have broken, as the lines are a bit off and the headlamp and fender is wobbly. Tuesday appt for that. I have some pics I will upload, short vids. Real weird.
There is a CD/DVD drive, it's in the centre console under the lid/armrest.
You can also load CDs from there to the hard drive, up to 10 of them.
But only CDs, not DVDs.
What MY is yours?
It sure looks like you have a blanking plate where the CD slot normally is (that horizontal piece of black plastic above the inputs). Maybe it's still there hiding behind that piece of plastic, but I doubt it.
And what gives with that NAV plug?
Neither of my jags (both '16 models) have CD players. I was surprised, but I suppose that they are about as useful to me as an 8 track would be, as I havent used a CD in years.

The audio system is available in three versions:
• InControl Touch: 192W, 6 speaker audio system (Not available in NAS (North American Specification) and Japanese markets).
• InControl Touch: 380W, 10 speaker audio system.
• InControl Touch Plus with Meridian Surround: 770W, 12 speaker audio system.
It also states that all sound systems have separate amplifiers and include MP3-Compatible, single slot CD, and where specified a combined CD and DVD slot. Even for the 2017 MY.
However I believe that has not been updated correctly from the earlier models as the non-Plus variants no longer use IAMs (stereo head unit) with the CD/DVD slot.
There are two types of audio system on the current model - those based around the IAM1 or IAM3 system (used on all prior to 2016) and those using an AHU level C (those without the Plus system). The latter do not have an optical drive built in to the head unit. They use a remote dedicated drive on some other JLR models like the X351, but o the F-Type maybe they did not bother to fit one? Bruce's message suggests his XE comes without one too.
The easiest way to confirm if it is hidden somewhere is to check your audio sources from the audio menu - if there is no CD or DVD option it isn't fitted.
There are some bizarre spec combinations out there. For example in Switzerland it is possible to specify an F-Type without satnav. Why - who knows? You still get the screen, just no satnav.
Looks like you need to rip all your CDs to FLAC or WAV, or at least high bit-rate MP3, then load them onto a USB stick, that's what I did with most of mine.
Edit - at least on my late 2014 build MY 2015 coupe, CD tracks ripped to FLAC or WAV will not play via USB.
The Owner's Manual says, on page 109, "The audio system will play MP3, WMA and AAC files".
I ripped a CD to both FLAC and WAV then loaded the tracks onto a USB, and no go.
I then ripped the same CD to MP3, WMA and AAC (at the highest quality I could select), loaded them onto a USB, and all three worked.
I had forgotten that the CD worth of FLAC tracks I have was loaded from the CD slot to the hard drive, which of course is no help to ioneabee!

Reason: Correct wrong advice!
Funny, I was recently reading about the nav system on newer cars. If you remove that SD card, the nav system will stop operating. You have to completely shut down the car and replace the SD car to restore it. And don't mess with the file structure on it.
+1. And it also looks like ionabee is missing the special USB port that is to be used for the inControl Apps. Must be a UK thing. Maybe needs the "convenience" pkg to get all the features

For us lot in the uk i think it all depends on what sound system you choose with you only getting a dvd/cd drive if you pay the extra £1,330 for the 770 watt version.
I didn't upgrade this so have the 380 watt version although that one USB port does work for incontrol apps.
I believe the 770 watt system is standard option for any model above the "premium" in the USA
I was taking a bag out of the trunk this morning, and noticed the condition of the metal (brushed stainless?) "Jaguar" trunk threshold plate. It looked like it had some really bad scratches in it. I rubbed a fingernail over them, and they puckered up and got worse!
Then I realized that the whole plate was covered in that sticky clear protective plastic you often get on electronics. I was able to peel the whole thing off, and the plate looks a lot better now.
Then I wondered if the factory or dealer had forgotten to pull this film off, or if all the cars were delivered like this. I wonder how many more owners still have this plastic film attached, and don't realize it's there.
