Default New 2018 purchase - baseline maintenance?

Hi all,

I just purchased a 2018 F Type R with about 42k km on the clock. I’ll post to the newbie section when I get some pictures. Sold a Porsche 1991 911 (964) that I heavily modified for track and racing to get into this one. My track days are done but I still like speed.

The new car with no service records at all so I was planning on doing some basic maintenance to get it to baseline.

My plan was to do the following:

Do not flash to new software as the exhaust note pops/crackles is intoxicating.

Replace
Oil/filter
Brake fluid
Transmission fluid
Rear differential fluid
Transfer case fluid
Air filter
Fuel filter
Pollen filter

Check
rotors/pads - pads are 8/9 mm?
tires
any fluid leaks

Fix
driver door glass rattle

Apparently there is a turn signal recall that’s never been done but I’m concerned as it’s a software update…will that kill/mute my lovely exhaust?

ps. Already bought a VAP tuner….never stock for long.

That's a fairly good list to start with and I can't think of anything else vital/important.
Some will say you should also replace the coolant but at 4 years and 42k km it's not needed yet. Same with the spark plugs.
Two little nit picks, it has two engine air filters not one and the fuel filter is "for life" and even if you did want to replace it it is a PITA to do so as it is integrated with the fuel pump which sits in the fuel tank.
Also thoroughly check for brittle/cracked/worn coolant system pipes and hoses, ie for potential future leaks and not just current leaks, check the condition and tension of the SC drive belt and the serpentine belt, and check for excessive engine rattle caused by such things as a worn SC coupler or worn timing chains. Those last two plus the crappy coolant system pipes/hoses/tubes are the big ticket items on the F-Type V8 and V6.
Edit - three more things/common problems - check that the T50 Torx bolts on the brace struts in the engine bay (two struts each side running diagonally) are done up nice and tight, that the low beam headlights are not pointing way too low, and get a full wheel alignment.

Being a 2018 MY means that it "could" have been manufactured in 2017. Were the coolant pipes all switched by then in production?

Pretty sure the coolant pipe upgrade happened with the 2016 MY.

I could not find a fuel filter replacement recommendation so it makes sense it’s supposed to be a lifetime item.

Whoops, forgot one more very basic and very important check - the battery!
It should still be OK on a MY 2018 but it may be getting a bit dodgy by now as four years is about the time they last if not regularly hooked up to a battery tender.
Lots of threads and posts around here about Jag and F-Type battery problems.

Dealer took care of a new battery before delivery as it had a ⚠️ light on the dash so I’m good there but thanks for the heads up.

Any idea if the software flash for the turn signal recall would affect the exhaust noise?

Remember, these came with 5 years of free maintenance, so you can have some of this done for free,

The coolant pipe upgrade was part of the mid-cycle refresh that occurred for MY18. MY18 builds started in early 2017 and those have the old-style coolant pipes (my 2018 built in March 2017 had the old-style pipes). I'm not sure what the cutoff is, but if the car has a build in late calendar year 2017 or any time in 2018 I would be pretty confident the pipes are updated.

You can easily check which version of the coolant pipes you have just by looking at the main cross-over pipe on the top/front of the engine.
If if has an obvious join/seam (in the horizontal plane) then it is the old version, if it is smooth and completely round it is the new version.
There are pics around here somewhere showing the two versions side by side.

My 2015 V6S has a coolant leak now, haven’t dive in to find it yet. The crossover pipe was replaced 3 years ago under warranty. I might as well do all the hoses/pipes now. Recommendations for part vendor(s), list of parts and other things to do “While I’m in there”. Assume supercharger has to come off to do them all.
