Default New F Type Owner

Picked up my New 2015 F Type R on Friday! Lunar Grey with the Suede interior, Vision Pack, Pano Roof. Never thought I would own a Jaguar – until my friend let me drive his F Type. Instant decision.

Picked it up in VA – traveled over 600miles for it but the deal was worth it. (some really good incentives on new 2015 F Types). Plus got a road trip home with it to get acquainted.

Initial Impressions:

The good:
FAST! And handles even better than expected.

SUPER impressed with the transmission. Coming from a manual I was worried about going to an automatic. Now I am not sure I would go back to a manual - drives better than the dual clutch autos I have driven.

LOVE LOVE LOVE that exhaust – cant get enough of it.

The seating position is spot on.

As good to look at as it is to drive!

Random nit pickings:
This stereo SUCKS! From reading the reviews – I didn’t get my hopes up but worse than expected .Tinny and faded… Need to spend some time playing with settings.

The AC seems to randomly turn off for a 10-15 seconds (blows unconditioned air) and then back on to cold air… not sure the cause or if this is normal.

The rear spoiler goes up at 70MPH but button in the middle does nothing? Edit: Thanks for feedback NAV MD!!!

Overall I am very pleased!! – More pics soon to follow.

Congrats, you're going to need to attach some pics... ;-)

The spoiler button let's you extend the spoiler while stationary to clean around it.
While the car is off, press the start button then the spoiler button... voila, "cleaning mode"

Otherwise, it deploys automatically at 70mph.

Great, and welcome!

Try turning your HVAC down to a low 60º-ish setting and see if it still cycles on and off. I would guess it's maintaining whatever temp you have set as defined by the thermostat wherever it's located. I don't think it's a particularly accurate reflection of cabin temp.

It really is great to pick up a new car and just love driving it.

My air conditioning is consistent so I wonder that you have a potential issue with yours, assuming you are driving in hot weather.

Lawrence.

there is a "sensitivity" setting hidden in the menu...double check it's not set to high sensitivity, which, if I understand things, would result in more adjustments by the AC system...

There are a couple causes for this that I've noticed:
1. If you're set to auto mode on the AC, it will shut down to non-conditioned air when it's at the desired temperature.
2. If you are in Eco mode and are stopped, the engine will turn off and non-conditioned air will pump in until it gets hot enough, then the engine will restart and the AC starts going again.

The sensitivity setting in the menu that @shift mentioned is for the air quality filter, and theoretically should only control whether or not the automatic air re-circulation kicks on or not.

Enjoy your ride, it's so much fun to drive!

Your point #1 is exactly what I think is happening... I was in auto mode and the cabin would feel comfortable then all of a sudden it would turn off for 10-30sec until interior temp changed (it was hot out).

I would think it would continue to blow AC air just change fan or temp of air once cabin is at desired temp (vs shutting it all down)

oh well - summer only lasts a couple weeks here anyway.

Congrats, and welcome to the forum. I'll keep an eye out for you, though I'm generally west of 128.

In the UK, the button will deploy the spoiler while driving - provided I'm doing less than 70...

Yes, but will it re-stow the spoiler manually just below 70 mph? That's what I'd really like to do without slowing below 50 mph.

I believe F-Typical has a convertible, and the spoiler operates differently than on the coupe. We can extend/retract ours while moving, though I don't think we can override the deployment at 60MPH (as opposed to 70MPH on the coupe.)

Edit: wrong again, F-typical's profile says he has a coupe. My mistake. But it sounds like his UK coupe operates like US convertibles in that the spoiler button still works while moving.

Mine (european version) can not be manually re-stowed after it has been automatically raised at 70 mph, when slowed to below 70.

You need to slow down to below 50 to get it automatically re-stowed.

Mine is a 15 Coupe.

Holden, congrats on your new F-Type! It's beautiful, of course.

Yeah, the AC blows unconditioned air for a little bit when it gets to temp. Not the best way to go about it and I'd prefer that it just changed the fan settings, but oh well. Eco start/stop mode is the worst...

That is a pretty car. Modern automatics are definitely improving.

Interesting comment about the stereo. Are there any "pay Jaguar a ridiculous amount of money for a decent one" options?

No, the upgrade sound option (now standard in the US) is the 770w Meridian system. It's simply awful for a supposedly high end system. Meridian should be ashamed of themselves. That said, it's tolerable at certain settings, but nowhere near the fidelity of even cheaper automakers. Mid-bass and Bass is the worst.

The sound system is fine for me. My hearing is so damaged that begrudge not being able to get a cheaper system.

Still, there are lots of settings and some are definitely better than others.

That Lunar Grey looks great. Enjoy!
