I wouldn't get the Alfa. I think that it would be fun for a couple of weeks, but I would quickly tire of the lack of sound deadening and the ride. But if you want hard core, the Alfa is the way to go. My aged posterior likes to be able to go from hard core to livable daily driver - my V8S offers both modes. And it's insanely easy to steer with the go pedal.

And there might be a reason for that.

Yeah, b/c Alfa Romeo can't sell them!
I just wanted to test drive one and see what it was like. My wife called it a clown car. But her not liking it makes me sort of want it more!

Believe it or not, I have finally committed, and now I'm inquiring about that '15 pre-owned F-Type R coupe. It's an R that I feel in love with, RWD, and the color combo is exactly what I want. Just waiting to see if things can come together...

Removing the rear hatch cover definitely makes the exhaust louder inside, well at least it does with my R

Thanks, but still "patiently" waiting to be a member (I hear crickets from the dealer...)

Great idea, never thought of that.

This brings up a question I had been meaning to ask:

Is the exhaust in the base model car essentially the same as the V6 S with the active exhaust switched off? Or on? I had just assumed that the base model car was (roughly) the same as the S with the active exhaust off. Is that correct? If so, where in the exhaust is the component that changes with the switch?

Or am I just completely misunderstanding how it works?

No, that's not correct, although the two exhausts are closely related.

The base exhaust has no valves to open or close so it's always open and always relatively loud The V6S exhaust has valves on the same pipes that are always open on the base exhaust, but it also has an extra set of "J-pipes" that are always open.

In terms of loudness the base exhaust is louder than the active exhaust with the valves closed. The active exhaust with valves open has a deeper bass note and sounds louder as a result of the extra "J-pipes."

There is a picture on here that illustrates the difference well, but I don't have time to look for it now.
