Default Official Sticky Thread For Known Issues

Admins suggested I start a thread so owners could keep track of whats/what on their vehicles and compare notes.

Don't want a rehash of the XJ Event of 2011. ;-)

PLEASE add to this.

I personally think there will be limited issues with these cars. I think Jaguar learned their lesson with the XJ and nipped everything in the bud.

But it couldn't hurt to centralize COMMON issues here to help future owners and current owners alike, weed out any build issues before they become problematic.

Good idea as discussed New2Jag and I will sticky this for the forseeable future.

Please note, to keep things as tidy as possible, please make no posts commenting, only issues to add.

If we are kept informed of any additions, we can simply copy / paste them into the frst post so all can be quickly and easily spotted at a glance, rather than having to wade through many posts.

Default A list of known problems and some solutions

I wanted to check my new car over for known problems so compiled the following from this and another forum. I've referenced which forum if that helps and hope it doesn't upset anyone...

The most common problems seem to be suspension thump and centre air vent, but overall quality looks really good for a new car and first ships...

(some issues are not build issues but I can't tell from the original post so have included all)

Known issues as at 30/10/12

1. Rear Suspension Thump. Cause: Absence of an isolator sleeve fitted to the rear Coil Spring. Solution: A Technical Service Bulletin details how to fit an isolator sleeve to each individual rear Coil Spring to eradicate the noise. (Rob Enderle, https://www.jaguarforums.com/ and several others

2. Flakey paint, pos only on BRG and Black BRG paint is starting to chip in certain creases on my car. The area is the crease between the back of the door and the rear wheel well. It is happening on both sides (tom45 ) http://www.f-typeclub.com/

3. Water in headlamp covers -anecdotal from my dealer but manual says you may get temporary condensation.

4. Burnt to the ground-reason unknown https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/attachments/f-type-all-new-72/51692-possible-fire-issue-ku-bigpic-jpg?dateline=1377006681 https://www.jaguarforums.com/

5. Tire sensor says tires need air. Dealership unable to clear the code even though the tires are fine. Solution: The factory improperly installed a European sensor on the front left tire instead of the US sensor. (Scott Bourne) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

6. The stop/start ceased to function (blacklotus) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

7. The brake lights are stuck on and the dealer hasn't been able to figure anything out (blacklotus) Solution: Replacing the brake light switch / module https://www.jaguarforums.com/

8. Centre Vent. The center vent that should retract and deploy when turned on and off will only retract about 70% when turned off and will not deploy at all when turned on.(Snowcone) https://www.jaguarforums.com/ Centre vent won't open all the way (tom45, bconklin, tai4de2) http://www.f-typeclub.com/

9. A center console latch that opened instead of locked when the car was locked (Rob Enderle) https://www.jaguarforums.com/ ( I think there a tech Service Bulletin on this)

10. Ticking Noise. I kicked it into the "Sportshift" mode and hit the pedal. Drove a little in the full Auto mode without doing any manual shifting, and after hearing the engine, put it back into normal Drive. Almost immediately after, I could hear a slight "ticking noise." The noise corresponds with the RPM. The sound got a lot worse by the time we got home, and now sounds like a deep go-kart noise. (NicolajM) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

11. Part of roof mechanism not laying flat when top is down. (tai4de2) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

12. Convertible top getting stuck mid-stream. (Hhmaker) https://www.jaguarforums.com/ and "convertible top won't go down Solution: Replace the conv top motor (GerryJag) http://www.f-
typeclub.com/

13. Scratches on the dashboard (under the moving air vent area) (Hhmaker) (Some of our problems were caused by Jaguar roadside) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

14. Water penetration on the passanger side. (Hhmaker) (Some of our problems were caused by Jaguar roadside) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

15. Clear coat on the front on the hood was peeling (Hhmaker) (Some of our problems were caused by Jaguar roadside) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

16. Gear box fault. Went to drive it and error came out Gear box fault. Could not clear it... I called the dealer.. . Solution: There is a upgrade. They replace the shift with a new upgraded one. (tonystf) Note I am lead to believe if you start the car and quickly engaged the gear it
will fail I believe it is a software problem (nrwatson) https://www.jaguarforums.com/

17. Dashboard Creaks and squeaks as if it's too tight. (Scooby789) http://www.f-typeclub.com/

I have two issues on my car which may be worth adding to the list:
  • The locking mechanism on the fuel filler cover isn't working - the fuel filler cover opens even if the car is locked giving full access to the fuel filler at any time.
  • The volume from the rear two speakers behind the driver seat is very low. IF you move the fader to the rear, when only the rear speakers are working there is very little volume.

I'll be taking the car to the dealer later this week for them to take a look.

I have been saying since I got my car the radio did not sound how a 1200 dollar radio should sound. I did the same thing you did... Turned it to the back and got very little sound out of it. I realize one of the speakers is a sub, but the other speakers were muffled too.

It is and has been my only complaint. Radio sounds worse than my wife's Fender system in her new beetle.

I’m calling the dealer tomorrow about the gas cap cover. Will let all know what is said. I also have the small paint peeling issue in the seems behind the doors. I intend to do the normal new car stuff tomorrow (sink phone, do radio + cd’s, set priorities etc.) so I will no more then.

Stealth allows you to turn your radio screen off while still allowing you to use it. Or at least, that's all it does on mine. I thought it would allow you to turn the entire interior cabin off. Guess not.

Default Stealth - additional info

Thanks, I also found that it lowers cabin lights and since I have the mood lighting, I can change that from blue-red, etc., and change the cabin ambiance. I have not gone through all the combinations of individual lights yet to make sure which lights are on/off and there are switch settings that I have not used.

Default F Type issues

New in November 2013. V8 F Type in Italian Racing Red. Had Jaguar Assist out twice so far and both occasions they couldn't fix the problem. Other niggles too which corrected whilst in for the main problems.
1) Windscreen wipers 'froze'. Assumed a fuse, but Jag Assist that wasn't it. Dealer collected car and returned few days later. Apparently a software issue.
2) Door handle on drivers side would not retract when locked or at any other time for that matter. Passenger side is fine. Car still locks but with handle out. Going into Dealer next week for this to be fixed. Jag assist could not fix.
3) Gearbox Error on start up. Would not engage either Drive or Reverse. Error shown on warning Screen 'Gearbox Failure'. Corrected whilst in shop for (1) above - no reason given.
4) Small leak on roof over passenger window. Corrected whilst in for (1) above.
Lovely car. Great to drive. Worried about these niggly issues.

Default Electrical system

Brand new 2014 F Type V8-S. Three days after getting the car, everything electrical flashes and flickers and dash displays go crazy. Finally display tells me, "Charging system failure" and that DSC is no longer active so I should drive carefully. This has happened twice. Dealer has had it for 3 weeks. They replaced the fusebox and hopefully that does the trick. Anyone else have electrical problems with new F Type?

When I put my car in park, sometimes it shuts off the ignition without me touching the Start button, meaning I have to turn the ignition back on to adjust windows, roof, radio, etc.

Doesn't do this in Dynamic Mode, or with ECO mode turned off. I believe I've been told there's a firmware fix for this.

Edit: got in the car yesterday (after pulling it out of winter storage). After driving it, I left it in the garage with the roof down. Got in it to put the roof up; turned on the ignition, but didn't start the engine. Roof wouldn't move unless I started the engine. I've found it's inconsistent - most of the time, I can raise/lower the roof without starting the engine, but not always.

[The check engine light came on after pulling it out of storage. If it doesn't go out on its own, I'll be taking it in.]

Default Paint chips

I have some minor paint chips behind the doors where the plastic lower panel mates to the frame. I asked the dealer to switch them with factory painted panels but he said they come un-painted, so that won't help. At a future date They will re-paint the lowers. I was told some panels were not properly primed and this causes the paint to flake off. I'll wait to see how the problem is handled for others before taking committing to new paint.

That's a common problem - mine is minor enough that I'm not going to do anything about it, for now. There are a number of threads around about that.

Default update

Update: Dealer replaced the fusebox and I have driven the car nearly every day for the last several weeks. No electrical problems whatsoever. The F-Type makes a fun daily driver.

Hi All,
Just picked my new F Types S Coupe, and I can't start to say how much I love it. It looks better than any photo I've seen and drives beautifully. However, there are a two main issues that are of concern, and both relate to panel fit.
1. The bottom edge of the doors sticks out almost 10 mm when it should be flush with the body of the car.
2. The gaps around the bonnet are not even.
Am I being too fussy or should I expect more from a car that in Australia just cost me over $200k. I would appreciate any feedback or advice regarding these issues.
