Default Oh those option prices...

$138 for a license plate frame and some locking wheel nuts ?

Almost as crazy as every local inventory car having heated seats and steering wheel. Cold climate package in Texas ? I guess it helps when you're wearing shorts in January.

Also love the "cable provider" type bundling ? You want the blindspot monitoring and front and rear parking and camera? Yes, you have to buy the bundle with a bunch of other things you would never order a la carte.

The heart says the Premium is nice but the head says meh, stick with the base.

Or do like I did, buy an 18 month old used one with nearly all the fruit for half the price of an equivalent new one. Yes, it may not have the "latest and greatest" gadgets (eg InControl) but I and my bank balance can live with that sacrifice!

It's all your fault - I saw your F-Type and started idly drooling....mostly because the back seat is just used for junk mail and dust gathering now ;-)

When it comes down to it, I rarely use many of the toys, or I don't always trust them. Blind spot monitoring but I still look over my shoulder after checking the mirrors...

Even the dealers agree that the Cold Climate package is silly in Texas but they claim that's just what Jaguar sends them off the transporter.

I'm looking at leasing a base coupe...now that I've test driven a couple it's getting harder to ignore the want. Not a need mind you...

On a vert, blind spot monitoring is a blessing.

Agreed when I drove one with the top up, that missing quarter panel window was very noticeable. I'm looking at coupe which has a smaller rear window but I think I could live without the rear camera and parking sensors.

So $64K question - did anybody just go with a base coupe and regret it ? Seems to me the base engineering is the same. I'm a little confused by the changes to the air conditioning controls - does Premium or the Vision package just add dual zones and the air quality sensor ?

I got the Base Coupe and love it. Suits me perfectly, and has way more performance than I use in daily driving. Didn't want most of the higher end features which I wouldn't use in my driving style; I don't race or track the car. However, I wanted just a little luxury which I have never had in a car so I got the interior leather upgrade. Hell, it's a British car right, supposed to have lots of leather in the cockpit. And I got the vision+lighting pack with the parking sensors, blind spot monitor, and back-up camera. I use them all the time, especially the camera and parking sensors and find them indispensable especially parking forward. I still don't know where that long nose is all the time and what's out their in front trying to bite me. I'd recommend you re-think that.

It's funny but my XFR has the parking sensors, blind spot and rear camera and I find myself still not "trusting" them. Those front parking sensors I am sure are just plotting to pull me into a wall and then laugh.... ;-)

I'm looking a base Polaris White where thankfully they haven’t gone all mad with the BLACK EVERYTHING package. I like the alloy colour wheels and the chrome trim. The last one I looked at with the Black Pack looked like it was pretending to be a Tesla.

I'm a no black-out guy, too spooky for me. I took the Base Coupe standard chrome bonnet and fender louver covers, and the base Vela silver wheels on a IRR car. Looks great to me. I like the way they stand out from the paint just fine. I saw no reason to upgrade wheels, but understand if you want more performance, you might want the grip of bigger wheels and tires. For me, it's a non issue. This car already handles extremely well for my driving style in all conditions, and I call it balanced. They must have had me as the model driver they were tuning the entire car around. Near perfect.

When I got my last car (2012 Volvo C30) I found the same bundling of options, but if I had gone through the Overseas Delivery program I could have not only ordered options a la carte but chosen colors not available in the US. I couldn't swing a trip at the time so got options bundles. Jaguar doesn't offer that kind of program so I ended up with things I didn't want to make sure I got things I considered necessary (as much as that word can be applied to any F-Type purchase).

It helps the dealers when they order for stock, but it's pretty annoying when a custom order isn't fully customizable. They build the cars to the spec sheet, so what's the problem. Bundles should be for convenience, not mandatory.

Yeah. I'm an old Harley guy, so I like a splash of chrome here and there.

Looks great to me too. Matt's car is the IRR coupe, mine is the salsa red convertible.

I normally dislike electronic assists, but blind spot monitoring on F-type is necessary.

Last time I was in DFW 1" of snow fell overnight. The Weather Man on the Morning News remarked that this made the total over 3' for the year.

Just got a 2014 F-Type that didn't have the vision package. Had a front and rear cam put in immediately and am most happy for it. Wish I had the blind spot sensors - I think they're really useful.

And if you could order just the parking and camera option without 50% of irrelevant cr*p that would be great....but you can't. It's like being told in order to watch NBC you have to take the Goat Herder channel and Extreme Knitting...

super useful - saved me a few times now. However, I have grown so comfortable relying on them that when I'm in my other car (leaf) I forget to look over my shoulder - close call the other day

You may not like the option packages and prices, but after coming from a Porsche, I am pleased with the way JLR does it. With the Porsche I felt I was being robbed to add options that should have been included in the base price or at least their should have been more packages that included common options. But the Porsche model is to squeeze every dollar/pound/mark from the customer, which is why their profit margin is so high.
I was able to find a 2016 early this year, on a dealer lot, optioned exactly the way I wanted it. That validates the JLR approach for me.
