Default Oil help ASAP

Hey guys,
just bought another jag and am driving it home atm. Hooked up the Torque App and it’s showing me oil level is at 4.9 qts. With dealer already closed, what kind of oil can I get at either Walmart or any of the auto parts store to use in a pinch. I’ve got about another 450 miles or so to get home but wanted to top it off. Please help! Thx

I would first verify using the car's own oil level measurement in the instrument cluster after having the car shut down for 10 min. If the low oil light did not come on I think you are OK below 3000 RPM. At the auto shop they can look up your JLR oil spec and see what 0W-20 they have in stock. While the hood is up also check for a coolant leak while you are there.

Some pics of your new ride are also appreciated! Good luck...

If you need oil. I always use Mobil 1. But change the oil ASAP when you get home.

mobile one or Pennzoil platinum European should be available from most auto parts stores.

Thanks guys. I stopped at O’Reilly and they had me drive to another store that had 1 Redline in stock. Luckily it was near my hotel so all good. Just surprised I had no “low oil level” light come on. It was definitely low but when I tried to check on the dash, it wouldn’t show…even after waiting 15 minutes. App is now showing 5.9 quarts which I’m fine with.

The "correct" procedure for checking oil level in the car is to run the engine up to temperature, then turn it off and wait 10 minutes before checking through the menu system. Any time after the 10 minutes will do - I sometimes check mine after 3 hours. Not sure why you couldn't see yours after 15 minutes, though.

Also, my oil level is constantly changing in the torque app. I get in the gauge the lowest point it reached in my drive so far and the highest point. Depending on if I’m on a hill or not, it may give imperfect readings. I sometimes record the readings from the drive (using start/stop recording feature), export values and calculate average of all readings to get a better idea of how ich oil is actually in there. I do this over different days to see if I’m losing oil over time due to oil leaks. Found a minor oil leak this way.
