Default Opting Out of JLR Data Collection

I saw several posts on this forum about opting out of JLRs vehicle data collection. I decided to give it a try. I went to https://vehicleprivacyreport.com/ and from there used their boilerplate email template to send an email to privacy@jaguarlandrover.com.

It has been over a week now since my submission. I have not received any indication from JLR that they have received my request, nor anything stating they have taken any action as a result of my email.

Has anyone successfully opted out of JLRs data collection using this method?

Yes. I saw the same posts here that you did. I followed up just as you describe, except that in my email I omitted the boilerplate list's last request item, regarding not wanting to receive any communication from JLR (thinking I do want to receive recall notices and class-action settlement instructions, for example).

I sent the request on July 12; received confirmation from JLR on July 14. If you included the "no communication" request, maybe they took you seriously, including re no confirmation reply! (Kidding, maybe.)

BTW, JLR's confirmation reply included an explanation that JLR's website will still share visitors' browsing info with third parties unless you manage cookies accordingly, to opt out.

P.S.: As my request to JLR noted, I'm a resident of California; it has strict consumer privacy laws, which might explain JLR's prompt confirmation reply. Also of interest:

The opt out also worked for me in California. Got a reply.

Not sure why it matters what JLR collects, Google and Microsoft sell your data monthly and a heck of lot more details. People are paranoid about big brother watching, yet will gleefully carry their phone everywhere and let their data be sold to 1000 businesses. Did you opt out of sending data to Google or Microsoft or your phone company?

With respect, you're pointing out the obvious. The issue here is that the car could report that I exceed the speed limit, which I never do of course, or acceleration, braking, cornering g forces, or whether I drive late a night, etc.

Despite efforts feeling futile sometimes, I don’t think that there is anything wrong with someone caring about their privacy. It is a personal issue.

The car will tell them what you did for the last 30+ days as soon as they hook it up to the systems at the dealer, if they are scanning your car. There is limited storage, so does not track you for long period of time anyway. This so customers do not say to them, my 90 yr old grandmother was barely doing 20 mph when the engine seized and then they scan find the tune and engine was at 8000 rpm's when it blew.

Obviously.
Do you have any knowledge about the effect of removing the SIM card? I'm going to do it and see what happens, but would like to know what to expect.

I would call the dealer and ask, also you might call an indie mechanic and ask them.

As noted elsewhere the SIM in the centre cubby isn't used by Jaguar for telematics purposes, so the car will still report to Jaguar unless you remove the telematics unit. Not sure what effect that'll have.

The vehicle will not start with the TCU removed, as it's part of the drive authorization system for anti-theft reasons. It could be coded out and then safely removed, we are having to do that on older TCU2 vehicles as parts are no longer available. This would be the only way to stop remote tracking if that's your concern, however the thing mentioned above about the vehicle storing data onboard, that's normal fault tracking for all modules and cannot be stopped. The SIM you can remove is only for customer data like web browsing and Nav, has no effect on data transmissions that matter.

And such info could be sold to insurance companies by JLR, unless you opt out.
