Default OT - CarFax question

Hey guys, this may not belong here, but I know y'all so posting here.
I'm looking at a used Volt as a replacement daily driver and the Carfax for this particular car is... somewhat strange. The last record is at 21K miles and the car has 32K. While I know that everything is not reported to Carfax, every other Carfax I've seen has the last entry as the new owner, or at least that it was auctioned off. Should no history at all concern me? I'll make sure they own it!
Thanks!

Is this for a car at auction that is registered out of state? Make sure you know that it is possible to title-laundry written off cars by transferring them to certain states that don't track flooded and so on cars.

Carfax usually has a delay in reflecting issues, up to couple months if the car ends up getting moved across state lines.

Hey, thanks, good to know. The car was in state (CA) up until it dropped off. Interesting about the lag time, I found out that one of the car I was looking at had already been sold because it was on the CarFax already! I'm a little sketched out because the place is one of those roadside stands (Dino Motors), not an official dealer. But the place has 16 5 star reviews. I don't know if they are all his friends though...

11k miles without reporting is a good sign if the last report isn’t more than a year or so. Even then, you might not be seeing any oil changes that might have occurred.

Thanks Unhingd. Last report is an oil change 8/27/16. Should the last sale be reported? That is was is puzzling me... Will need to figure it out soon, heading out now, wish me luck!

If the car has been in the hands of dealers since the previous owner signed over the title, it may not have been retitled but just reassigned (Signature on the back of the title) from one dealer to the next, therefore not triggering a Carfax report,

Took a look at it, so hoping it would be in great shape, but it wasn't, so it might be a moot point anyway...
Thanks!

okay.. since we're OT, I am on topic but off OP's topic....

If you report something to your insurance, but never file a claim (start it, and let it close without any data / info), does that hit the carfax?
