Default Placing order this week. Some questions I need help with.

I am about to place an order for an F-Type R Coupe and have some questions:

1) The new Jaguar Apps package is now an option. Apparently it includes an SOS button. Does anyone know if in this package Jag has something like BMW Assist where you press the button and a concierge can program your navigation for you?

2) I am thinking of getting White, pano roof, chrome trim (I don't like the black side grills so not doing the black trim). Should I get black or silver wheels with this?

3) I like two-tone interiors but I don't like the seats having different colored bolsters. My favorite interior is the red leather interior option in the V8S Cab where the doors have red center panels, the seats are fully red, and the dash is mostly black except for the grab handle. It seems on the R the full red leather interior has much more red. Does anyone know if it is possible to configure it more like the V8S red leather interior?

4) I haven't bought a jag before. I worry a little that the car turns out to be poor build quality and consequently I lose my shirt in depreciation compared to buying a Porsche. Does anyone have any regrets buying this car?

My R coupe is on order.
1. I did not order the Apps. They have not received very good comments.

2. I ordered Italian Racing Red with chrome trim. I chose the silver turbine wheels as I do not like black wheels and looked better with the chrome trim.

3. In order to have the red door inserts you have to order the extended leather package which, I believe also adds red leather the passenger grab handle.

4. I ordered my car in August and delivery is schedule for December. I test drove several cars including a Porsche 911S but nothing was more fun than the Jaguar. That kind of thrill is priceless to me.

I agree with you. I was going to buy a 911 as well, but this car is echelons more fun. By comparison the 991S seems to have an outdated power train, inconsistent power delivery (for street driving), slow, and also less comfortable.

A couple of extra questions:

1) How does the extended leather package change the seats, and also the stitching?

2) I agree the apps aren't impressive, but I am wondering if the Apps package includes similar to BMW assist or Onstar. The dealer says it does, but I can't find any evidence of that.

I came from a 991. Can't beat it for daily driving. Depreciation is also good compare to Jag. But FType is definitely more fun exciting as a weekend or 2nd car.

Kinda a dumb point but the only thing I regret not getting is the illuminated tread plates. I'd add them for sure if you haven't put the order in yet.

Who wants to buy a car when they already fear it's going to be of poor build quality? Especislly one that's over six figures?

The apps are a waste FYI. Extended leather pack is a must.

With my BMW, I spent countless hours learning how to listen to music from USB, download music to the hard drive, create music collections, connect to apps on my iPhone, connect to BMW remote, connect to BMW Apps, adjust the equalizer settings, etc., etc.

With the F-Type, I suddenly no longer care about these things. The car is so much fun to drive you don’t have time to worry about it. I spend more time learning how to get the best sound out of the engine and exhaust. I did not order my car and it did not come with the Jaguar InControl Apps. I enjoy technology but I honestly do not miss it.

I was also concerned about reliability and quality. After reading and watching so many positive reviews I decided this was the car for me. I have washed and waxed every inch of my car and I am impressed with the quality and construction. Jaguar has done a very good job and hopefully the fears of poor reliability will be behind them. I got my car recently and just turned 1,000 miles. So far no issues.

If you are the same StealthPilot on Bimmerfest, switching from an M5 will be a big change but a positive one. I switched from a 535i and while it was an excellent car, I do not miss it. The F-Type has soul and is just a ball to drive. This car draws nothing but positive comments. I literally got a round of applause when I got gas on Friday.

Thanks for the feedback. Very helpful.

I am indeed the same stealthpilot from M5Post. However this car will not replace my M5. There is room in my garage for both a true sports car and a supremely fast luxury saloon.

I loved the test drive of the R Coupe so much that I have to have it. It's so engaging and the sound is hypnotic.

I am sure this is already on your list but I agree the extended leather is a must! I really like the flat bottomed steering wheel also. You will find the overall technology and speed of the touchscreen controls and navigation to be lacking compared to BMW. The actual route navigation appears to be better than the idiotic routing that can occur in the BMW. One thing I really like is that the navigation will make suggestions for food and gas prior to each exit which can be helpful. The backup camera produces a fisheye, low quality image compared to BMW’s setup, but it is functional. BMW has the edge on technology features over Jaguar, but I have not found anything that is unacceptable. With a true sports car, you learn to live with a few minor inconveniences.

Good luck with the ordering process. I have looked at a lot of different F-Types and I don’t think you can go wrong with any combination. This is a great car!
