Default Potential New Owner - What to look out for abs OBD2 readers what’s the deal

Alright folks - I’m looking at either a 15 R or 16 R - what are some things I should be on the look out.

Any key options to look for or avoid?

Also - what’s the deal with Obd2 readers?

Thanks!

It's been reported some of the OBD reader do not close the session down and cause a battery drain. I bought the iCarsoft for JLR and have never had that problem. I bought that brand from a recommendation from one of the members here.

The biggest decision is whether you want to go with RWD (15) or AWD (16). Each has its advantages.

If you're looking for a coupe, make sure it has the vision pack. Visibility is terrible. The backup camera was still optional in the years you're looking at.

Actually I would say the convertible with the roof up is worse than the coupe because no rear quarterlight to look back out on ....that's the thing that ultimately turned me off the vert....

Yes I'm also one who doesn't put too much faith in electronics ALL the time - the blind spot alter may say good to go, but I still like to check ;-)

Thanks for the clarification on the vision pack. I had no idea. Crazy to think a 100k coupe wouldn’t have a back up camera.

I've used my OBD dongle (Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner ) that I purchased on Amazon along with the iPhone app (OBD Fusion) and haven't had any issues at all.

Not sure where you're located, but in the US NHTSA mandated back-up cameras for all vehicles sold after May 1, 2018. Very few coupes/convertibles of any make had them prior to that date simply because of cost. SUVs/Crossovers/Pickups/Minivans saw them as standard equipment much earlier simply because of poor rearward visibility.
