Programming BCM, VelocityAP tune, Steering Column Calibration
Long (painful) story .... I had to get a new BCM installed in my 2018 6MT R-Dynamic. The JLR dealership installed the BCM and all was fine except they couldn't get the steering column adjustment module to connect. The tech indicated that he could force a steering column calibration file to the BCM but was hesitant to do so since he could see an error code related to the VAP tune being on the car.
BEFORE even going to the dealership for service I flashed the tune back to OEM/stock. The error code the tech saw is, in my view, a legacy code that stays no matter what since it reflects the fact that I did flash a non OEM file to the PCM. I'm not sure he knew this because he seemed to think that the error code meant the VAP tune was currently on the car versus *had* been on the car.
The tech was worried about installing the calibration module for the steering column since it is new software -- and he said there's a chance doing this could brick the PCM. I have a feeling he didn't believe me that I flashed the tune back to OEM -- but I absolutely did -- so he may have been overly cautious with his warning. Given that I already had an ordeal that lead to the replacement of the BCM, I couldn't take the risk of bricking the PCM so I told him to just leave it. Now my steering column won't adjust/move at all.
A few questions that I have:

A few questions that I have:
- Should I have just let him update the software/calibrate the steering column -- is there really a correlation between a BCM update and the PCM bricking as he's suggesting?
- Is it possible that as I drive the car, the BCM will 'recognize/connect to' the steering column module and start working again? or is the calibration/file the tech mentioned the only way to get the column back online/working
- I'm afraid to even re-flash the Velocity AP tune on the car now that there's a new BCM in the car -- should I be? Would flashing to the VAP tune and/or flashing to the VAP tune then flashing back to OEM help/hurt the steering calibration getting back online?
The P0167F code means that at some point a non-authorized device made changes to the programming but is no indication of what file is currently loaded. You are correct in that this persists even after flashing back to stock. You can confirm that the stock file is in place using the handheld programmer.
The dealer should be able to make the updates they need to make without problems. Once I had them do so on my car where the "base file" changed. I had to then get a new copy of the base file and send it back to VAP to have the tune applied to it, just as I'd done for the initial tune. There was no charge for this, it was just as if I were starting over.

Dear bb_Sam,
This is so interesting...We also got the exact issue...after replacing the BCM.. Steering Stopped moving..calibration was one of the steps while BCM programmed. However, after all the process done..Steering column won't work. I tried putting a used BCM from another Car. and the Steering Column worked. however, can't use the used one as it's belongs to another Car.
Were you able to have this fixed?
