Default Project 7 F-Type for sale

MSRP was about $176k. Think this baby will fetch $225K? Only 50 made it to the US, after all. More pics and info here.

Only an idiot would pay that much. It's priced ~$50K too high!

There's been one (in BRG) on Cars.com for weeks with just 84 miles for $175K (reduced now from 186K), so I guess 225K is a little high.

Given the rarity—and just how cool they are—I figured we'd see these appreciate...

The XKRS-GT is rare, but there always seem to be one for sale on line.

Brian Johnson's project 7 is for sale at $270k

So this one is a steal at $225k

Project 7 will suffer XJ220 fate, which means ultra-low mileage ones will slowly depreciate, and ones that are driven will quickly depreciate.

So no, it isn't a steal at that price point.

I find it quite arbitrary which cars seem to appreciate. Take the BMW Z8. Inferior to the F-type in most every way. Yet they seem to have appreciated from $129 sticker to $200+

Saw one on the road the other day, and it looks dated. Lets just say I wouldn't have traded my car for it...

Check out this article from 2016, they seem to be surprised as well:

The Z8 had zero demand for quite awhile, low values. If someone can explain what changed? Also Ford GT sat at sticker for years, could be had for $150, now going up fast.

Yep, too soon. It took 15 years for Z8 prices to start rising, and 10 years for the previous-gen Ford GT to do the same.

A number of year back I was a huge BMW fanboy and tried to buy a (lightly) wrecked Z8 for $45K & lost out in an auction to a guy that paid $48K. It had body damage but no engine nor any suspension issues. I projected the repair was going to cost less than $20K to complete with a knowledgeable BMW shop doing all the work on my behalf. Missed a real opportunity there.

This Project F is cool but I agree with others, it's just not THAT special enough to warrant anywhere NEAR the $'s they are asking for it.

Part of the issue with this car lies with JLR themselves. They tend to shoot themselves in the foot when they hype a "Halo Car" such as the Project 7, only to supersede it within a year or two with a car like the SVR. And then top that with the Project 8 engine upgrade.

This article sums it quite well... https://www.shannons.com.au/club/new...t-with-jaguar/

Anyone think the F Type R rear wheel drive models will ever appreciate. Only made in 2014-2015 (correct?), should limit the total number. Maybe drifters in 15 years?

The biggest challenge for Project 7 is that is based off a mainstream model that includes everything from an Audi TT competitor (4 cylinder turbo) all the way up to a 911 Turbo competitor (SVR). Sure it’s got some cosmetic changes but underneath it’s the same car as the others. You can’t say that for other cars mentioned in this thread - BMW didn’t have a 4 cylinder version of the Z8 for the masses, the Ford GT wasn’t platform shared with a mainstream model etc. I just don’t see attraction of the 7 as a collectible.

Someone else mentioned on this forum (and I agree), it’s a shame that JLR have had to cross the spectrum of TT all the way up to 911 Turbo challenger in the same platform. Porsche have done it right by separating the model classes, Cayman 4 cylinder / 911 flat 6. I do understand though that JLR and Porsche are in different positions from an ability to do that though.
