Default Proper Software Diag Setup

I was reading this thread here:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...atures-173984/
and there are a few things on this list I'd like to do. I've just bought my 2014 V8 S this last month so just getting things figured out.

I was going to order one of these:
https://www.diagnostic-associates.co...thru-interface
It seems like a few of you have experience with that, am I in good shape with that one?

And is this a legit place to get the SDD software?
https://www.maverickdiagnostics.com/...tware-updates/

I also am hoping this setup will let me release the EPB so I can change brake pads, and other useful stuff like that. I have experience with car software but this is my first JLR vehicle. I've got a Panasonic ToughBook running Win7 that's setup as my diagnostic machine, and a good battery charger/tender that can keep the car lit up while I'm plugged into it.

Am I going the right direction? Thanks very much for your advice!

This document includes the procedure for putting the EPB in maintenance mode...

Feel free to peruse my Dropbox folder of F-type docs. Take what you like; most of it came from here.

Wow, that folder is a goldmine, thanks!

Does anyone have an opinion or experience with this hardware?

I would recommend SDD software is downloaded (free to download, but need a paid subscription to use) from here

SDD download

One other point that's mentioned by Cambo in the thread linked to in your original post is the importance of a quality battery maintainer.

This isn't a battery charger Cambo mentioned needing to be able to supply 40A , I recall a document stating 55A and equally important is having a low out voltage ripple.

Whilst SDD will monitor battery voltage and show green, yellow or red battery icons to indicate voltage level a low voltage or high ripple or voltage spike when performing writing to car modules when flashing, including writing to CCF (car configuration file memory) can lead to problems you don't want to experience that are expensive to rectify!!!
Some of the following documents on IDS / SDD may be useful although they are a little dated and changes will have occurred

Yes the proper power supply - NOT a battery charger is mandatory and thanks again to Cambo for pointing this out.
I did not believe it for awhile but after getting a 55A-13.4 VDC low ripple power supply I had few problems.

I am convinced after working several years with the SDD and reading all the horror stories of bad Mongoose/Mangoose cables that most if not all problems can be traced to inadequate power supply. The car draws an amazing amount of current and when using the SDD it consumes even more. I have measure over 30A while the SDD is in operation.

@clubairth1 where did you find such a beefy power supply?

Something like this?

For good quality PSU's search for Amateur Radio products. We use variable voltage very low noise/ripple outputs and at high current.

What confuses me, is what/which modules are drawing so much current, seems like heck of a lot - I would have expected maybe 5 - 10A 'ish?

That was the type I sourced, Microset PTS 150, 13.5V, 55A maximum output with 60mV ripple.

I agree with your comment about how high the current requirement is, probably a worst case rating.

I did have a JLR document somewhere that listed requirement for different Jaguar models, will attach it when I find it

Yes I have that exact model!
IOTA DLS-55A.
I kept watching EBay and found a used one with all the plugs cut off. About $110. Made some stout alligator battery post clamps for around $25 using 8 gauge battery cable.

They are still floating around on EBay.
Here is a pretty nice used one for about $140 with shipping. New they run $225 or so plus shipping. Note that even the new ones do not come with battery clamps so you still need to make/supply your own.
IOTA DLS-55A

Still a good bit of money but now I use it anytime I have the car off while checking codes/modules. Have quite a few operating hours on it.
When I installed the Android big screen head unit I used it for hours on end.
It does get surprising hot/warm too. I placed a HF moving blanket under it in the trunk when using it.

Yes that document also pushed me to listen to Cambo.
See the attached.

Oops! Sorry it was posted up thread already.
