Edmunds have the S listed as:
Sound level @ idle (dB) 45.5
@ Full throttle (dB) 84.2
@ 70 mph cruise (dB) 64.9
@ 70 mph top down (dB) 72

Edmunds S Specs

They have the R listed as:
Sound level @ idle (dB) 45.1
@ Full throttle (dB) 84.4
@ 70 mph cruise (dB) 67.3

Edmunds R Specs

It does not say what the noise level would be with full open active exhausts, and I suspect those readings above are with active exhaust off.

Unfortunately, Edmunds dont list a Gallardo's sound levels for comparison.

But for comparison, my Harley Davidson is 98db (or 96db if you are from the local road authority! )

You can find more details on "super car" noise levels here...

SUPERCARS.NET - Comprehensive Specifications, Galleries & Forums since 1996

They record the Gallardo as being 87db, although I'm not sure what their source was. However, this page...
In-Car Sound Decibels | GermanCarForum ...seems to agree with that.

Aventador's, on the other hand, seem to be regularly reported at around 98db at full noise.

BUT... here's an interesting piece of direct testing from an owner of a F Type V6S. His commentary is here:

2014 Jaguar F-Type V8 S...Illegally Loud?

He was getting a constant 91db with the V6S, and a max output of 104db - LOUD! And that was standing still. His mechanic friend felt that a fly-by pass would get a reading up around 110db!!

Oz,
His "experimental" methodology was flawed. U.S. DOT (dept. of transp) measurement protocol specifies that the microphone be place 15 meters to the side of the vehicle as it is driven by (not 1 foot behind it while stationary). That's the number used to determine compliance with the statutory limits.

Yes, I didn't really think any official body would measure exhaust sound levels using an iPhone app.

Just citing for the interest of the thread. (Still bloody loud, though)

But you are nevertheless correct.

Compared to my old F355 GTS with Tubi Exhaust and previous Aston Martin V8 Vantage I can confirm that the F-Type V8 S is indeed far louder than both marques.

Lamborghini are just loud in every way.

There's an Eco or autocar YouTube video comparing loudness of FType vs ferrari 458.
