Hey guys, so the previous owner of my R got in a low speed front end. The body is completely straight, but they had to replace the front bumper, and the shop didn't put the R badge back on. I bought a new badge a while back, complete with the front/back bases, screws, and adhesive badge, and installed a Mina Gallery intake over the weekend so I pulled the bumper off and tried to put the badge on, but I couldn't get the front half of the retainer plate to fit into the grille slots. No matter how I positioned it, it just wouldn't line up and slide into the grille. The front and back halves need to be flush with each other for it to screw in but I couldn't for the life of me get it to fit into the grille. Is there a trick to it, or did I maybe get sent a base plate for a different Jaguar model? The base and R have the same part number for the gloss black upper grille, so if it's the wrong part it'd have to be for a totally different Jaguar model, but the part number itself isn't molded into the piece for me to verify.
After wasting about 30 minutes trying to get it to fit, I gave up and finished the intake install, so now I'll have to drop the bumper again to get the R badge on, which really irritates me. Was hoping to knock it all out at once. Anyway, pictures below if anyone happens to know or have one on-hand to compare? Thanks guys...
I figured this one out after a lot of digging, and thought I'd update this in case someone else ends up in my shoes. In 2016 Jaguar changed the grille shape, but only on some models. It's still the same honeycomb style grille, but the pattern is about 1/3 larger. So instead of having 4 honeycomb 'lines' that start at the sides of the upper grille, it only has 3. The honeycombs are geometrically identical as far as I can tell, they're just slightly larger on the new style grille, so it's hard to pick out in photos. To make things worse, Jaguar had the old style grille on the first R's in '15, and continued using the old style grille on some S models through 2017, and even used the same old style grille pattern on the P7, so you have to go by VIN number to know which grille you have if you can't tell visually. The new style grille starts from VIN K22185. So ultimately I did get sent the wrong bracket, but can't return it at this point, so if anyone with a 14-15 S or V8 S, a 15 R, or a 16-17 S (or P7 I suppose) with the old pattern grille wants a spare front badge bracket, I've got one for sale. lol
For reference, T2R13866 is the S/R badge mount for the old style grille, and T2R16549 is the S/R badge mount for the new (2016-2020, not '21+) style grille.
