These things probably happen all the time in the land of high-end autos but the only thing I can say is OUCH!!!

That definitely could have happened with any brand, or any business for that matter. Doesn't say much for the record taking skills of the direction though.

People that can afford cars like this have money to pay attorneys. This probably won't end well for the dealership. Agree, this isn't a Porsche problem, this is a financial control problem at the dealership. Porsche won't have a sense of humor with regard to this at all and will likely move aggressively to protect their brand.

+1 Agreed. This is ALL on the dealership and no way they will be able to provide ...what, 24 GT3 & GT3 RSs? Sad

This is a consequence of fake exclusivity, there is absolutely no reason why Porsche couldn't build GTs to meet all the demand.

Actually, it is en EXCELLENT example of capitalism in action. Demand drives up prices. Any manufacturer has the ability, but few the constitution, to limit their production so that they can demand (and get) the highest prices for their product. It has nothing to do with anything "fake". The exclusivity is real as you can't play unless you can pay and as long as Porsche can continue to withstand the pressures of mass production, they have the right to put whatever price they want on it

+1. Having bestowed the title of V.P. on the creep, the dealership gave him apparent authority to transact on their behalf. The fact that he failed to get the money into the dealership’s account, should be of no concern is to the customer. Not certain they have much of an obligation to deliver the cars if they aren’t available, but the certainly have an obligation to make customers financially whole. Besides, for the nation’s largest Porsche dealer, $2.5M has got to be mere chump change, and any competent business will have insurance for this type of employee malfeasance.

Un, don’t you think the dealer has an obligation to “buy-in” to the extent possible to cover the sales.

From the way I read it, the customers signed deals with a business called Autosport, not the dealer itself. This separate company was supposed to be acquiring the cars through the dealer. I'm guessing they're screwed.

Porsche exclusive in the same way Swarovski Crystal is. The only reason there aren't more 911s GTs is because Porsche chose to not make more. That fake exclusivity is what irks me endlessly about such brands. Artificial rarity is as fake as making engine noises through car speakers.

Not quite. These customers were sitting in a Champion dealership signing documents with Champion Autosports. The dealership allowed this to happen on their premises. They are culpable.

As much as I hate it, "false" exclusivity is pure capitalism, a simple supply and demand curve being maximized. Companies always choose how many cars to make and they do so to maximize profits. Porsche realized that for very low production cars, if you make them even more rare you can actually make more money by building less cars but charging a lot more for them. Turns out people are willing to pay a significant premium for a "limited" production car. They are the ones responsible for "false" exclusivity.

And to be fair, it's not just Porsche that does "false" exclusivity. Ferrari is perhaps the worst offender although McLaren, Lamborghini and many others are all trying to do it.
