I'm currently planning a trip that will necessitate extra storage and I would really like to take the F Type. The only real option seems to be suction mounted roof boxes however I am concerned that the added lift might pull the glass off of the roof. Does anyone have any experience with these?

 

Have your passenger drive separately and fill their spot with your luggage...not sure I wan't to see an F-Type with a car-top carrier on it....ever.

Beyond that, I really have no idea if that would affect the "panoramic" glass roof. Not sure I would risk it.

This doesn't calm my nerves about the roof box lifting my pano roof off the car. I would imagine they generate a lot of lift considering they're essentially wing shaped.

I guess I'll have to be the guiney pig for this one. I'll make sure to test it at speed!

 

They create more drag than anything as the air behind the carrier will stall. I don't think that will have an impact on the suction cups (i.e. it would put more stress on the suction cups if the carrier is not aerodynamically shaped).

 

Fonzo, are you taking along something like a set or two of golf clubs plus luggage ? Is your luggage the typical carry-on bags with wheels ?

If only needing luggage for two I would think about using several duffle bags of various sizes with an unfolded garment bag laying over the top of the heap and held down with a bungee cord. Take off the cargo shade if you have one. The bags don't have to be expensive if they don't have to withstand the baggage handlers at an airport. You can fit quite a few soft sided bags in the same space that you can only get a couple of carry-ons. Especially if you get a few smaller duffles to fill up the odd spaces and corners of the hatch.

They would probably be less expensive than a roof top carrier, plus you wouldn't have the risk of damage.

Two of us just completed a 10 day 2,200 mile road trip in our 2021 R-dynamic convertible.
My wife took all the clothes she wanted. We were in both "smart" and rural (hiking) environments.
Despite initial concerns, we were easily able to pack all we needed.
The trunk space in the vert is much less than the in the coupe.
As stated above, the key is to make your bags fit the space.
Soft-sided bags allow you to fill the entire volume.
Avoid anything with structure (ie. stiff-sided duffles, hard cases or wheelies).
You sould try a test load before adulterating the F-Type with a roof box.
If you do end up going the box route, better make sure your liability insurance will cover you for a following car with a box in the windshield!!

 

Be wanting to tow a caravan next

 

People used to tow caravans with E-Types - I recall reading a published leter from someone who claimed to see looks of amazement on the faces of the people he overtook on hills!

 

I'm at the mercy of other half here sadly. She's relocating from another country and will have a lot of luggage with her. I was hoping that my F Pace will arrive in time, but it's looking unlikely.
