For the first time, I'm starting to consider buying a new Jag. Whether it's an XE or an F-Type, I don't know. I would like to get it with a manual transmission.

However, I'm just curious how real world sales prices compare to the MSRP. How did you guys do in your price negotiations??

 

My first time negotiating car deal, was willing to walk away and deal with another dealer (several within ~100 miles) - and let them know up front. Probably could have done better but I am happy.

MSRP on my 2016 S (automatic) was $95,108. Price ended up at $91,830. (I also got the $1000 holiday cash for leasing) - Final cost: $90,830.

After you get the car, a few thousand is *probably* not going to be at the top of your worry list.

 

There are many variables at play here (MY, region, time within a MY run, amount of dealer stock, how long has a particular car been on the lot, etc.). Almost always, the better deals can be had on something in stock, and it's probably too late to custom order a '16.

That said, in our part of the US, you could probably negotiate up to 10% off MSRP on a '16 at this point, and up perhaps 15% off a '15, but, of course, it would have to be an automatic.

JLR of Annapolis MD had a lot of base manuals in stock the last time I checked.

 

Try using TrueCar. Be willing to drive a few hundred miles, and you can save a few thousand extra. Put in other zip codes to try to find a TrueCar dealer within a reasonable drive. Also, become a Jaguar Club of North America member, if you can wait on the car. After 6 months of membership, you qualify for JCNA rebates, and that was $2,500 recently. And right now, Jaguar is offering 1.9% financing and a $1,000 rebate on base and S models, and $2,500 rebate on R models, if you take the finance deal. This info is for F-Types.

 

Interesting ... Because I posted my message in the NJ/NY region member section. I'll post my message here as I need a knowledgeable member reply. I sincerely hope my salesman will hook me up with good price for a new 2017 car. But if doesn't, I'll simply walk away .

You might consider getting some feedback on the heated windshield. I think the concensus is that most people don't find the need for it, and some actually are bothered by it.

 

From what you know, what's the issue with having this option . NJ winters, cold weather is harsh at times. Your thoughts please .

 

The issue is windshield distortion which bothers some people, and polarized sunglasses apparently make it worse. In addition, it's a rather expensive option, which is hard to cost-justify because waiting a few more minutes allows the regular windshield defrost to do the same job.

 

It's always good to hear another person opinion. I will delete this particular choice from my order.

UBAD2, you also have to consider your circumstances. If you live in the Northeast or upper Midwest (northern NJ might qualify) and have to park the car outside frequently, I wouldn't dismiss the heated windshield so quickly. Here in the mid-Atlantic region, I believe the high cost and visual disadvantage* outweigh the benefits of the option.

*When the sun is at the right angle it will cause a rainbow effect in the upper right hand portion of the windshield. Otherwise I never notice it.

I don't regret getting this option, but certainly wouldn't get it again unless I lived someplace with hard winters.

Good info here. I did not think about the manuals being pretty much special order-only. Would definitely make getting a big discount more difficult!

If I were to do a new F-Type, I'd probably be leasing it. Seems to me that leasing can make a lot of sense for these kinds of cars. I bought my 2007 XKR when it was 6 years old, with a small downpayment (comparable to a lease initial payment) and even now that I've been paying it down for 3 years, I have not built up a whole bunch of equity in it. And it has had substantial maintenance/repair costs, too!

You've got 4 or more dealers within 30 miles, so you should be able to secure at least a 5% deal even on a special order. However, as Foosh mentioned, there are MTs (5 to be exact) sitting on the lot at the Annapolis dealer. Those discounts could indeed be deeper. Unfortunately, your closest dealer in Tysons is the most miserly with deals.

Actually it was MTs (manual transmissions).

And yes, there are 5 in stock in Annapolis, MD, approximately 35 miles from "amcdonal86" in Arlington, VA. As I said way up top, there should be very good discounts (10% off MSRP) negotiable on those cars.

 

I have a heated wind shield in my jag and I am ordering one in my F Type. The lines are unnoticed after a couple weeks and I've never experienced any rainbow effect with or without polarized sunglasses. The heated glass allows me to drive with the heat directed at the cabin as opposed to the defroster, and it does a great job preventing buildup on the glass and wipers during snow/sleet/freezing rain.

 

I ordered my F Type S Coupe in September....got 6.5% off the MSRP, without the manufacturer running any specials at the time. I will say, though, that when the dealer was only going to make a couple hundred bucks off me, the salesman did get a little less interested.

By now you should be able to do better than that, esp if you're buying off the lot.

Should have the car delivered in a couple weeks. Storm grey, black pack, black tornadoes. I think when he realized he wasn't going to make more on me, he didn't swap me up to an earlier allocation spot 😀
