Default Scratches on drivers and passengers windows

Started noticing vertical scratches on both windows today 🥲 I did some research and saw that this was a common problem years ago. Apart from getting the window seal replaced, which if you’ve had it done out of warranty let me know how much it was, does anyone have any tips in preventing/cleaning rocks and debris being stuck in the windows? Thanks! Obligatory pic of the JAAAAAAG

If it was in warranty, here’s what the dealer would have done…

And I think your dog is asking if it’s his turn to drive yet.

How often do you wash the vehicle?

I kinda wonder if, at least in some cases, it could be tied to how clean folks are keeping their cars?

I saw one older F-type at a local car meet. It had all these light vertical scratches on the windows. Nothing deep, just light scratching. That suggests to me that it is general dirt build up on the seal over time that eventually becomes abrasive.

Rocks could lodge and do it too, but I would think that would be more isolated and potentially deeper scratching. The one I saw, the vertical scratching was pretty much uniformly everywhere on the window.

This is the one thing which lets me 2021 car down No idea why the deigned it with a channel which can catch debris. I had read the window seal design was changed\uprated on later cars but clearly not.

Not been brave enough to ask Jaguar how much a replacement window would be.

Hmm, so you have scratching on yours? I’m in my 3rd year with mine and I have none, but my cleaning regiment is pretty regular. Once a week most of the time, 2 weeks at most…But if I’m going 2 weeks it’s likely because I’m busy or travelling, and the car isn’t being driven to collect dirt ;-0

I sincerely think that this makes a difference,

I’ve only had the car for a little over a month but I don’t remember the lines being there when I bought it. I’ve taken it on one 3 hour trip to Kentucky, but it’s an 2018 with 15k miles so I’m assuming it didn’t do any highest driving originally. I’m very meticulous about keeping it clean but live in an apartment so only use a quick detailer/wheel cleaner for the most part. Noticed the one large scratch on both sides during a cleaning last weekend to prep for a car show 😬

Unfortunately it came like that when I bought it at 3 years old. Not got any worse, but I check regularly. Still a terrible design, like a lot of things on the car.

EASY SOLUTION. Show it with the windows DOWN.

Long as the bonnet/hood isn't raised you can still lock the car including the glovebox.

My previous reply wasn't meant to mean that i care much about looking good for a car show, just that it's when i first noticed it lol

For those that clean that area specifically, do you just spray it down with water or use something like a blower to clear any debris? Now i am paranoid of putting the windows down bc theres definitely a second smaller scratch developing i saw this morning

I clean the SEALS on all my cars periodically.

With the windows down, clean the surface that contacts the glass with a damp cloth.

Added benefit if you coat the glass with silicone spray and run it up & down a few times.

As said this is a common problem. Over on the UK forum there's a thread on how to easily remove and clean the seals which should help. Can't find it now because the search function isn't working right now but you should be able to find it if you search for door waist seals there once the search works again.

I just tried opening the page using an IP number in New York and then I got blocked too. Weird but seems like visitors from the US are not welcome. You wouldn't believe how much canceling of anything related to the US is going on in Europe but this seems a bit over the top. If you have VPN you should be able to access it using a location in Europe.

Could be the act of using a VPN period, or a particular VPN Ip that’s been flagged for bad activity (regardless of geo).

I’ll have to try cleaning the surface that contacts. Thought I tried that at one point but didn’t feel I could get good enough access or something to do it? I’ll have to look again.

As for the silicone spray, that just seems like it could get messy, no? Just seems like that could attract dirt to me.

I thought it might be due to ad blockers so checked myself. I think I've been denied previously from there for ad blockers but this is definitely a different message.

Yeah looks something like a rule on Cloudflare. Same happens to me, even on incognito browser, both wifi and cell. Maybe reach out to the administrator, they may have made some config mistake that blocks all of the US lol. Oops.
