Clean the glass AFTER you coat the seals. No issue here...yes it does smear the first or second time the windows are operated.

 

Okay, it just seems to me that any dirty that did get in the door would collect over time in the silicone? But I can you are right in that this is a widely suggested approach when one googles ;-0

Will definitely keep this in mind.

 

I've got the updated seals, and added cleaning them to my routine. Because the glass angles in, dirt and the like can slide down the glass and collect on the seal. I've tried several ways of cleaning. One is to run a vacuum along the lower edge of the glass with the window closed, then roll the window down and vacuum along the seal. I recently got a small battery-operated blower and have used it to blow off heavy layers of pollen and clearing the window seal. I don't use any grease on the rubber, but do use Rain-X or equivalent on the glass itself. The weatherstripping around the door opening gets an occasional treatment with Shin-Etsu.

That reminds me: My car is due for its spring beauty bath. A decade of California sun has not been kind to the hood. If I end up getting out all the full detailing kit I may do a light polish on the door glass.

 

I’ll have to revisit this and see if I can do this, or similar. I looked at it at one point and there didn’t seem to me like there was a lot I could do easily that would have a lot of impact, but I could be wrong. I’ll look again.

Regardless, my windows are perfect, and all I’ve been doing is striving to wash the car once a week thoroughly. Life happens, so I can’t always keep that cadence, but I try to meet it in general. Which keeps things pretty clean, and when you’re washing your car once a week on average there’s not much to clean, it makes it pretty easy, etc…

I tend to think that regular typical washing is enough to avoid this issue, but I obviously can't say that with absolute certainty.

I’ve seen how bad this problem can become on these cars first hand at the car meet I referenced above in a previous post, and I definitely don’t ever want to get there, so I’m open to any and all suggestions ;-)
