Default Selective Exhaust

Hey guys,
Our neighbors homes are pretty close and the majority of the residence are retired. I really don't want to upset them with occasional early morning cold starts and late night arrivals. My question, is there a noticeable difference when switching the exhaust note? I am heavily favoring the F-Type R. I'm also a little concerned with the highway drone. I love the crackle and popin' but I just want to know that it is somewhat controllable when needed.

Thaks

If you have the active exhaust, whether it's the dumb version or the switchable version makes no difference, the car ALWAYS starts in loud (exhaust valves open) mode, and I don't know of any way to override this and get it to start in "quiet" mode. So no difference at all to the start exhaust note in either quiet or loud exhaust mode. Of course once the car has started it will idle a little more quietly in quiet mode.
Maybe just maybe VAP can (or have already) designed a tune which does this, and I believe at least one version of their after-market rear muffler can be set to start in "quiet" mode.

If it's still early, I keep the garage door closed just long enough to mute the first blast, no more than a couple of seconds.

Sometime ago browsing the forum I found a device people were using to have more control over the valves BUT this would have no use if your car was using engine vacuum for the valves because it would need the engine to be on to accumulate vacuum before being able to shut the valves. Atleast for me, since I did vap valvetronic and had no valves or vacuum to begin with, I did the vacuum pump and controller seperate from everything else allowing a true quiet start up and then super loud when I want but that’s just an idea if you wanna go that far.

Selecting D straight after starting will quieten it down, IME. And once warm, in D, non-dynamic and low revs (<2500) it's pretty quiet (but still quite quick!).

Just got my 2020 R and I wake up pretty early in the morning before all the neighbors. I start the car in regular mode with the garage closed and then open the garage after the start. I feel like it's only loud at startup and then it's pretty quiet if you don't activate the exhaust. Sorry neighbors....

If you do that, you will need to clean the inside of the door on a regular basis...

If you are lucky, the Retired folks near you will be sleeping with their hearing aids off...

My neighbors tell me they hear every startup. When they are outside, they stand at attention and salute as I drive by, then do the "we're not worthy" thing with their arms. It's all a little much, so I understand pressing the start button with the garage door still closed.

You can control the pops and crackles with the throttle. On the highway the V8 is deafeningly silent in 7th and 8th. In quiet mode the car is silent luxury unless you get on it, and there is no reason to get on it unless you want the noise because the car is a rocket with 1/4 inch of pedal.

Because its geared for idle RPM at highway speeds, 1800 RPM at 90 mph, my V8 F is the quietest car I've ever owned. It is also the loudest by a mile. Both my BMW I6 and and Audi I4T are waaay louder on the highway because they need to rev to move.

Not so with the MT. 3200 rpm at 90 mph in top gear.

One of my two pet peaves about the manual. Highway rpm is crazy even at 80. Second is button placement around the shifter. You can’t see half of the buttons and need to rely on memory. I think it is one of the biggest ergonomic failures I have seen in a modern car. Still love my manual though!

I do the same. Door closed on startup and then immideately open it and put the car in R so it quitets down.

The one way loud start up is also a problem to me.
The new F-type 2020 will have the normal start up mode
