Service Intervals
I was just reading my new Jag 3.0 handbook. It states first service and oil change at 16,000 miles.
I know service is included for the warranty period, but 16K seems ridiculously high mileage for the first oil change.
Previously when talking about buying a used vehicle, the dealer stated 5,000 miles then every 10K.

It seems that many people use a DIY oil pump to extract the old oil.
Where does this enter the engine/crankcase, as there is no dipstick?
Apart from the Mityvac, manual pump does anyone recommend a 12V pump system?
Extracting by pump seems like it should be an easy DIY at home and beats a few hundred bucks at the dealer

Thanks Matt. Couple more questions if you got a minute. Where is the oil filter located - is it accessible from the top? Which engine oils meet the 0W-20 STJLR.51.5122 spec? I did find a Blau Ravenol 8qt kit with filter for about $100 with matching specs.
I plan on doing the first oil & filter change myself at probably around 2500 miles. After that, at 5000 mile intervals with the dealer doing the free changes at 15,000 mile intervals. The expense of buying a Mityvac and the required oil & filter for a DUI change isn't that big of a deal, and the peace of mind far offsets the cost savings from letting the dealer do it under the free scheduled maintenance changes.
As my car will not be a daily driver it is going to take some effort to accumulate 15,000 miles and I can't see going a couple of years between changes.
I don't know that I would even want to run a new Toyota Corolla with Mobil 1 oil and a Fram Ultra filter for 15,000 miles let alone a supercharged V8 Jaguar

The filter is in exactly the same place on the V6 engine: top, forward, passenger side (on LHD cars) of the engine. On early cars the filter is under the engine cover. On later cars the filter is visible with the cover in place, but the cover must still be removed to remove the filter.
...and the engine cover comes off easily, nothing to unfasten, if you haven’t tried it yet. Some take it off and leave it off.

- Liqui Moly Special Tec LR 0w20 (must say LR)

There seem to be multiple varieties of Castrol Edge Professional 0W-20
The Rover version is designated "E" on the label
I also found version "V" and version "LL IV FE"
I have no idea what the differences are.
I did find LIqui-Moly Special Tec LR which actually labeled as meeting the Jaguar spec STJLR.51.5122 -- that is more available at a reasonable price on Amazon

I got my oil and filter at the local dealership, total was $130 or so (about $11/quart for oil in which you will need 8 quarts and $30 for the filter). see if u can find a cheap price online and have your local dealer try to match it best they can. even if they can't exactly match it, most of the time it's cheaper cause your not paying shipping. not sure how much my dealership charges but I figure with the price of the mityvac and oil filter wrench, it's still cheaper and super easy to do.
Doesn't it say 16,000 miles or annually? I don't think they want you waiting 2 years between oil changes. You have to do it either at the 16k or annually plus or minus just a few weeks (they seem strict on the timing). Check to make sure - a few people here have had trouble getting the free maintenance as they left it a bit too far past the annual mark.
Lots of cars with modern oil are doing 15k+ miles between oil changes. As others have said many of us do it more frequently for piece of mind.

Mostly due to the fact that jaguar plc Engineers and work force are tea drinking **** holes , who live in a British city called Birmingham. Lazy B sprinkle to mind . They want the car to break down after 5 year so you will be foolish and by another . Do the oil and filter change around 3 k miles the car will thank you

They also have a 0W-20 kit - search for ‘oil change kits.’ Not cheap, but convenient. Comes with oil, filter, and replacement plug (which I don’t use, as I use a MityVac.)
One of the reasons the Jaguar has a longer specification on oil change interval is sort of counterintuitive. When you change your oil, at start up, there is an initial period of oil starvation. It is brief, but still there. I would think that Jaguar has evaluated that and wants to minimize the amount of wear during those times. The damage from oil contamination is most likely lower than that high wear period, therefore it is better to not have repeated oil starvation starts.
As far as a system other than MityVac, the solution is very simple. You can get an old car battery and a 12V fluid pump off Amazon for like 20 bucks. Get some clear PVC hose an slip the hose over the oil extraction tube. Works just as well (if not better) than the other systems. Why better? Because you can take the outlet of the pump (with a plastic hose) and put it directly into a waste container. No need to dirty both the barrel of the MityVac AND a waste container.
I use this for all my JLR vehicles and have saved thousands over the years, skipping the expensive dealer costs.

I’ve been getting their 5W-20 Land Rover oil change kit. Don’t drive the car in cold weather, so I use 5W-20. This kit has too much oil, so I have extra.

is the filter the same for LR and f-type? Oil Filter LR011279 is included in the kit
