Mostly due to the fact that jaguar plc Engineers and work force are tea drinking **** holes , who live in a British city called Birmingham. Lazy B sprinkle to mind . They want the car to break down after 5 year so you will be foolish and by another . Do the oil and filter change around 3 k miles the car will thank you
What a stupid comment. JLR oil intervals are no different to most modern vehicles and the reason they are so long is mainly because it's not 1965 any more and both engine and oil technology has improved. Every 12 months or 16k miles (whichever comes first) is perfectly adequate.
The reason for the long oil change intervals is because of CAFE; corporate average fuel economy. The oil used is added into that figure. Use less oil, pay less in penalties. The engine will last until the end of the warranty, then it becomes a problem for someone else. The big problem seems to be with the single row timing chain wearing due to the long service intervals. I would perform an oil and filter change at half the recommended intervals. Ensure you change the filter as new oil will pick up contaminants from an old filter.
So, if Jag states first service at 16K miles or 12 months, and you do your own oil change at 5K and 12 months, how do you fare regarding your warranty?

I don't have any experience. Yet.
But my plan is a DIY oil & filter change probably around the 2500 mile mark after I take delivery. And again at the 7500 mile mark. I'll let the dealer do the free oil & filter changes at the 16k mile intervals, and I'll do them myself in between.
It will of course be done only with the factory filter and the approved oil. I suppose it would be a good idea to keep all the receipts, but I don't see how it could have any effect upon the warranty if an owner did his own changes unless they could prove something was done improperly and resulted in an engine failure. Not a likely scenario.
In the US, as long as oil changes are performed with the specified oil and filter and documented with receipts, the manufacturer must honor the warranty per The Magnuson-Moss Act regardless of who performs the service.
It seems my view on long service interval / mileage between oil changes is a minority one. It's your car and hence your choice as to whether you change a high quality synthetic oil at the interval recommended by both the car manufacturer and the oil company. I have read a number of posts that cite the owner's peace of mind, that seems fine, what I think is rather more controversial is claiming that those who choose to change their engine oil and filter at considerably less than the 16000 mile interval will have an engine lifespan significantly longer than those who stick to recommended service interval of 16000 m / one year.
I am not aware of any evidence that supports the opinion that those who change their oil at anywhere from 3000 to 7500 miles will have a longer engine life, let alone that this would be due to more frequent oil changes, I also think there's a lack of evidence that AJ133 / AJ126 engines will expire prematurely if they are serviced as recommended.
Anyone care to cite any evidence to refute my opinion ?
Well the Jag handbook states 1 year or 16K miles.
Considering I shall probably only drive the F-Type about 6-7K per year, it appears the dealer should do a free service at the 1-year mark, then again at the 2-year mark, likely before I even reach 16K miles.
In all probability I shall only just get to the 26K service before the 5-year warranty expires. Apparently, the optional extended warranty (years 6/7) does not include free service or roadside assistance.
Paul_59 makes a good point. While we can't perform a do it yourself oil & filter change with Mobil 1 and a quality synthetic filter like a Mobil 1 or Fram Ultra for around $75 or less, spending $150 or so doesn't seem like a major expense on a $100K car if you want to err on the side of caution and change every 5000 or 7500 miles and let the dealer do them for free when you hit 16,000 intervals. I guess it all depends on your maintenance budget and level of concern.
One thing that may prove interesting would be to get a used oil analysis at say 5000 or 7500 miles and again at 16,000. Obviously UOA's that are performed early in an engine's life will show some signs of break-in metals that may be long gone by 16,000 miles, but you would get a good idea of how well that specialized Jaguar compliant oil is holding up with regards to viscosity, TBN (Total Base Number, i.e. a measurement of alkaline additive concentration that the manufacturer added to help prevent acid buildup in the oil as it breaks down) and TAN (Total Acid Number).

Under the free maintenance terms, the Dealer will change the oil free of charge annually or at 16k miles, whichever occurs first. You can change the oil as often as you like in the interim.
I tried to assemble the full Maintenance Interval from various internet sources.
What items are missing?
I wasn't so sure about the "tire rotation" as the F-type has staggered Front/Rears... But otherwise looks reasonable.
Not sure if there was any V-6 / V-8 differences.

Its a wonder they don't publicize this list more so owners are more aware of the maintenance process or potential expenses.
