Default Sold the "F" Type

Well I sold my beautiful sapphire blue F type. A basic car with only 1900 miles on it. I will miss the car as I still think it is a beautiful design and a fun car to drive!

Why did I do it? Well, we saw a McLaren in London a few months ago and just loved the looks. I finally went and drove the MP4 12 C a few weeks ago and I was sold. We bought a 2014 last week and even after a very fair negotiation they still stepped up on the F.

Happy to of owned the F and happy to welcome the McLaren to our home!

Thanks to all for your help and my learning curve on the beautiful F type!

Wow, congrats on the McLaren. The MP4 12 C is an amazing car. Maybe you could have kept the F Type for a daily driver?

I cross shopped the MP4 12C before I decided on the F-Type. The McLaren is a great car, but I wanted something I could use as a daily driver if I wanted to do so, and the McLaren just wasn't it. I would have bought it for a weekend and special occasions car in a heartbeat!

I had the same thoughts. I like the McLaren but it wouldn't make a good daily driver. I'd be worried all the time about parking it at the train station as well.

When the option comes for me to buy an exotic, I'll be leaning towards the Porsche 918 anyway.

In my opinion the mp4 12 c is an ugly 458. Great car no doubt but the looks are not for me.

Nice - what color?

I was under the impression that the McLaren could be used as a DD if you don't mind the attention and have somewhere to park it.

The McLaren sits very low, and has a carbon fiber tub. It also doesn't have the warranty that the F-Type has. I wouldn't want to put the miles on it.

The doors can be a little difficult to open and close in a tight spot, and just getting out of the vehicle is more difficult than the F-Type.

Here are some pictures. I understand many DO use it as a daily driver. I have put a few hundred miles on her and love it. The sound and power are amazing. It came with a full 3 year factory warrantee.

Use as a DD probably depends on your area and commute. I notice you are in San Clemente, my sister lives in SC right now. South OC has pretty smooth roads, plenty of parking, etc. I can see using a Ferrari/McLaren/etc. as a DD. Not that big of a deal. But in SF, the roads are rough, full of potholes, etc. Street parking is very tight. And if you go for garage parking some structures have really steep driveways that will constantly scrap the car. Still doable as a DD, but at that point probably just easier, more comfortable to pickup another car to deal with all these issues. I love driving the Mini around SF because I'm able to park everywhere, fit in the tightest spots! Still on the bucket list though, getting a car with unconventional doors!

I would not own this car in San Francisco! Unless I had a very nice private garage (which are pretty rare).
