Stuck fuel injector
Recently had the ignomy of being taken home in my F on the back of a trailer. It suddenly started running on 5 cylinders with sheets of flame coming out the exhaust. Wondered if the dead cylinder was due to a coil, but swapping coils from the dead one to another showed the same cylinder not firing, so not that.
Back at the Jag specialist garage, it turned out that number 3 fuel injector was stuck wide open, pumping gallons of fuel through the cylinder. Sorted now with a new injector. Fortunately, the catalytic converter wasn't damaged. There was fuel in the oil though, so had an oil change and new filter etc. Running great now, but concerned it might happen to another injector!
Anyone else experienced this?

I recall one guy said he had raw fuel shoot out the back and start a fire, but the forum was a bit skeptical as his posts weren’t very clear. That was some years ago, and the only case I remember like that (for what it’s worth).
I DEFINITELY had raw fuel shooting out the back! At the Jag garage, they had 4 fire extinguishers at the ready round the car when they first started it as they had seen the amount of fuel pumping out. Not a pretty sight!
I had one stuck injector a few years ago, and it felt like the the car was riding on square tires, it was missing so bad. My latest stuck injector happened a few miles from home. Cylinder 5, it was definitely putting fuel into the exhaust system, no flames though. It is currently getting looked at, I never though about fuel in the oil. How is fuel in the oil possible?
so much fuel goes into the cylinder which isn't firing that under compression it goes past the rings and into the sump. The guy following me said that the flames out of the right hand pipe (number 3 not firing) were 2 feet long!
Had the same problem twice on my XKR. Smell of unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust was scary, it was so strong. When it happened along with how badly it was misfiring and how much smoke was coming out of the exhaust, I was sure I was looking at a new engine. Fortunately, both times, it was injectors.

Yep, add a dose of fuel system / injector cleaner to the fuel on a regular basis.
I use Redline SI-1 and BG 44K alternately about once every six months.
