Now you are screwed, because you will not be able to unhear and unexperience the V6. I have V8 R and love it, but those v6s sound absolutely epic in their own way for sure.

Based on your reaction to the V6, the one thing we know for sure about you now is that you care about sound ;-0

Perhaps it’s more important to you than you realized. That is where that P300 doesn’t have the chops…In sound, at least in relative terms.

Yes. You are too funny! It turns out I do care about sound.. Since the salesperson left me alone to check out the interior of car and start it up, I loved the sound so much (still thinking it was a P300) I sent a video to my son and asked him, "did the sound come through on the video, it sounds incredible."

I admittedly "judged" every person on here who said the p300 sounds gutless (until I found out it wasn't the p300), thinking, "jeez, these guys are picky.". 🤷‍♂️🤣

Haha, that's a great story! Yes, that's the V6 for you. The sound never gets old and is definitely one of the things that make the car so engaging to drive. The V8 sounds fantastic too if you prefer some V8 rumble.

The dual fan turbo is for the most part a smooth running car. Turbo boost is unnoticeable. No review guy mentioned it. Mileage is over 30 mpg. Don't care.

Lacks the exhaust noise of the 6 and 8.

Except for the exhaust the cars look the same.

Car changes when you engage the Dynamic mode and Sport on the transmission. I have had a manual transmission English car since 1972. Do not miss the stick. The S mode of the transmission acts as stupidly as I would. Automatically.

Mine has launch control. Seldom used.

Cheap insurance. same as the wife's pickup.

I would prefer a 911, however the extra $40-50k is not in the budget.
You mention "cheap insurance" for the p300. I have All-State and a 2021 p300 quoted $3k per year. I'm 50 with perfect driving record. What kind of insurance do you have and how much?

The V6 is the best sounding out of all the F-Types Ive driven its super loud when it wants to be. The V8 is muscle car sound and its too loud. Did you put it in dynamic mode with sport on ? Because thats where all the fun happens in that mode. Are you looking at a coupe or convertible ?

I didn't change modes, didn't know how and salesperson sitting right next to me, driving this for the first time. I'm looking for a coupe. I didn't have a lot of space or time to open this car up, hopped on busy freeway. Only a too short 20 minute drive in traffic. . Mostly experienced the sound, quick throttle, smooth feeling engine, INCREDIBLE feeling of brakes, lovely/easy steering wheel turns. I'M IN LOVE! 🤷‍♂️🤣

Don't overlook a well maintained P300!! As others have said it handles wonderfully due to far less weight on the front end. I surprised many higher horsepower cars at a track day on the Mid Ohio Sportscar Course. It's a car you can really throw around a track with great confidence. I've had my 2020 for a year and no problems. I see the naysayers try to compare the 4 cyl. gas engine with the lamented diesel version. Remember how GM fared when they tried to convert a very reliable gas
V8 to a diesel. Disaster is putting it mildly!!

All the P300 needs is a Ragazzon Exhaust

Or maybe a Supersprint.

BEST !

I appreciate your input. If you've followed this thread I've leaned toward a P300 one day, then the V-6 the next. Right now, where I'm at is saving up a $20k downpayment for a 2018-21 P300 with less than 50,000 miles. Exterior; red, white or blue, interior; caramel/orange or beige (black is depressing). Trying to be at $30k or under after taxes.

My thinking is, first sports car, like the mpg, like the fact I'm using all 4 cylinders to the fullest versus teasing myself with the V-6. From what I read on here, the P300 has MANY less problems (a long list presented in this thread by one member). Plus, I want to own this car for a couple years, if I can maintain it and be happy, that would be my end goal.

I very well might be in a midlife crisis phase, self-aware. But don't care. I think this is one of the sexiest cars I've ever seen and can't believe I have a chance to drive one as my own in the near future. I think adding an aftermarket exhaust will help with the noise.

Curious. Is there a sweet spot in exploring a good P300 based on having this for a couple (hopefully) low maintenance years? Under 50,000 miles, full history. I'm 6'5, 250 pounds. I know there have been seat changes. This will be my daily. I drive around 15,000 miles per year. Is there a year that would best suit me?

<I'm 6'5, 250 pounds>

Aside from the intoxicating sound and beauty of the F-type, pay particular attention that you are comfortable sitting in the car for the long run.
I’m 6’-0” and I fit, but just barely. (My car has the optional “sport” seats). Once I squeeze in, it’s very comfortable.
Also, make sure that there is enough room for your right foot on the gas pedal without touching the brake pedal. The pedal box is tight.

I’m 6’ 1” and have no issues with space at all. I would have more room to move the seat if I felt I needed it. Perhaps it’s torso length vs leg length differences, not sure.

Short torso. I fit fine in the 2017. Thicker seats. Haven't tried the updated 2018-21 seats.

I made the statement that my insurance was reasonable for the P300. About like the DW's HD Ram truck a few years older.

We have one of the premier companies in the US. Never the cheapest. Cincinnati Insurance.

My rate for full coverage is about $1200 a year. The RAM was about $1000. .For 2026

Do not know about today. In the old days the size of the motor made a difference.

Quoted $3k per year from All-State and I'm 50 with a perfect driving record. Seems an awful lot for a 4-cylinder. Wonder who has the cheapest price for insurance in California.

That is the Ohio rate.

California is special. Price you pay for the weather.

I am 75 with a near perfect record.

I understand the home rate are also awful.

Changing the air filters is cheaper. There is only one.

Yeah, as mentioned above I’m in a similar situation as you in my locale…Similar age and perfect driving record…

I guess a big part of it is parts availability/cost, and apparently the all aluminum structure is difficult and costly to fix in the event of an accident.

Just one more thing for you to be aware of. Since you're looking for a 2018-2021 car it will be a facelift car which most probably will have the facelift LED headlights. I think I've only ever seen one weirdly poverty specced facelift car which still had the old pre-facelift xenons but they usually come with the LEDs which suffer from an issue with degradation of the DRL on the driver's side over time. That said, read up on the DRL issue and factor that into the purchase.
