Default Thunk In The Trunk

Have been hearing an occasional thunk type sound coming from the trunk area when turning up into a drive way. Happens when turning right not sure of left. Thought I had read a few months ago that others had had this noise.

Marty..

Is is coming from the trunk area? I have a plastic-y clunk noise that comes from my immediate left shoulder around the seat belt area.

I had a clunk coming from the drivers side rear on my 'R'. I heard it every time I backed out of my driveway. It turned out to be the rear strut. The dealer installed isolator sleeve on L and R rear and all is well again. There is a TSB on it.

I have some noise from the rear during the exact same maneuver, when making a right turn up an apron into a driveway. I've always assumed it was some cargo shifting in my trunk.

Thanks all definitely a clunk sound form rear of trunk area or suspension. Will take it in a couple of weeks for oil change (way to early at 2,000 miles) and another attempt a documenting the stereo issues.

I was having clunking in the boot (trunk) of my vert and it turned out one of the batteries was no properly secured and was clunking around.

I get the same clunk in my 2015 R Coupe turning left into my doctor's steep inclined driveway, no matter how slow I go. That is the only time I hear it and since I only go there a few times a year I haven't worried about it. Should I?

I had the same clunk coming from the left rear of the car when I would go over the 3 inch tall x 9 inch wide speed bump at the end of my driveway. I traced it down to a loose battery not being solidly tied down by the clamps. Apparently the installers were a bit rushed to get the battery fully under the front clip.

I get a slight clunk at the bottom of my driveway, so I'll check that out.


Also perhaps a bit rushed: I found that the top of the weatherstripping on both doors was not properly installed. The upper end has two plastic fasteners that were not pressed into their holes.

The "thunk" you're hearing is a known suspension issue on at least the 2014 models. There's lots of chatter here on this forum from a few years ago about this subject. I believe there was a tech bulletin on this and it's easily addressed by the dealer as they know about the issue.

I didn't have it initially, then noticed it after a few months and the dealer addressed it with a suspension modification.

Dropped the car off this morning good news was able to duplicate the clunk noise in their driveway for the service writer and he also clearly heard the stereo booming issue. Also having them do a oil/filter change at 2K miles can't so the 16k on a new engine.

Did you end up getting this resolved? Same issue with my V6S and trying to see what I can find out before it goes back to the dealer yet again for this issue.

I had the same issue ('15 F-Type R)... the dealer installed an idolator sleeve on the strut and this resolved the issue and thump sound is gone.

Yes got it fixed they replaced one of the rear Struts don't remember which side.

Martybmw, what was the resolution of your stereo booming? I have speaker rattle, vibration. I hope when they fix that issue, the sound overall will be improved. I can't seem to find any settings to get a decent sound. My B&W unit in the XF was superior to this unit. It is my only disappointment with the car at this time.
