Default Ticking Noise interior making me crazy

Hi All,

I have a weird ticking noise at the B pillar behind the passenger door at the small window. It is like a ticking noise that pops up when im driving , its there most of the time and sounds like a ticking metal piece. I have tried different things, taking out the cover of the trunk , taking down the plastic panels on the side but the sound is not going away. The car is just 4 years old and has 16k miles.

Does anyone have tips for me?

Which side does your passenger sit? Mine sits on the left.

On the right side, the drivers side is the left side. It appears its coming from the area where the window is and i have tried to put pressure on the panels around it to see if the sound goes away but it doesnt. Could it be that the window is making the noise / something with the rubbers? Its like panels are creaking

Does it occur only at speed...when you are going, say over 30-40 MPH? Does it get wors at higher speeds?

This occurs only at speed yes, i can hear it sometimes when driving slow BUT at 40 mph it gets worser. It is a ticking noise that doesnt go away. I think you described it well. It was sometimes present the noise but it disappeared now its back and louder than ever. It got a lot colder last week... maybe that helped the sound develop even more. I was driving it on the highway today and the sound was present all the time than coming off the highway it was almost gone... very strange

I have the coupe version btw.

If the passenger seat is pushed all the way back, it can make some squeaking noises. Make sure it isn’t rubbing.

I discovered the same thing in mine. Seems to arrive around 65-70 and gets louder with increased speed.

I have already put the seat as much as possible from the back position and it did not make any difference

The issue is the rubber seals along the hatch. I will try to get a picture and post it. The seal glue fails and when you drive at speed, it moves and makes that noise. It does sound like it comes from the spot you indicated.

I will try to get some pics for you to demonstrate. You can use 3M adhesive and re-seal it, and it should go away. This is the most likely cause anyway. I was wrong once though

See pics...And try it. Very easy to test. Get wide masking tape, and run it along the entire length on each side so it is 1/2 on rubber, and 1/2 on the metal. Take a test drive and see if it goes away. if so, you have found your issue. See pics below.

Good call, Rock. That’s been discussed here, but it’s been a few years.

You mean this gap? Haha No glue whatsoever... it was literally like this.. So i need to glue everything back in place and check what will happen ? Or first attach some tape to it and drive around

You can tape if you want to test my opinion....or just glue it back if you want the noise to stop. The taping is just to verify the noise stops, as I indicated in my post and pictures above.

Hopefully, that does it for you. Either way, you will want to glue that seal back.
